On her own: Former Pussycat Doll Jessica Sutta

Even after all these years in the international arena, Jessica Sutta still loves the club. If she’s lucky, no one recognizes her. Then the former Pussycat Doll becomes just another dancer on the floor, lost in the beat. Jessica stepped out from the shadow of the band that made her famous when she released “Show Me” last summer. If you love to dance, you’ll want to pay attention.

Produced by busbee (Katy Perry, Lady Antebellum), “Show Me” explodes with shuffle-fueled energy, reaffirming Jessica as the soulful vocalist she’s always been.

Beyond the act: Gary Sinise

Actor Gary Sinise is more than just a star of film and TV. The CSI: New York star is a real class act. He has answered a call of duty by helping our American heroes involved in the conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan. He has become an Armed Services advocate beyond parallel, donating time, money and effort to make sure our returning vets are treated with the dignity and respect they so deserve for protecting our freedom.

Meet Neon Hitch, performing at Dinah this weekend | VIDEO

(This article originally appeared in the BottomLine Magazine, a content-sharing partner of SDGLN.)

I got the chance to email Neon a quick Q&A over the pond before she invades the sands of Palm Springs this weekend.

The BottomLine:

First off, Neon – that’s an unusual first name. Was that a birth name or a nickname, and there’s got to be a story behind it!

Neon Hitch:

Spin Around: Remembering Whitney Houston

Like so many music fans around the world, I too was surprised and saddened at the news that Whitney Houston had died. Although her numerous personal struggles were widely reported by the news media, her sudden death still came as a quite a shock. Personally, I felt the loss not only as a music fan, but also as a DJ. Over the years, Whitney Houston’s powerful pop tunes and energetic dance tracks created on my dance floor what can only be described as pure magic.

Fashionista! A look at this year's hot spring fashions

Men’s spring fashion is all about sports jackets, layering, textures and bright colors. Several looks (like Prep, varsity and sweater vests with ties underneath) are making a comeback in a big way – but with a twist.

Try to avoid the skater, surf wear that has dominated the scene for years. Urban street wear is more the scene – though that too is headed out, but you can probably squeeze one more season out of the look.

What makes sculptor Rik Phillips tick?

I sat in the remodeled trailer, appreciating the mid-century modern décor that accented the living space. My glance danced along the bookshelf that showed off Rik Phillips’ robot collection – a blast from the past that showcased beloved robots in pop culture – including the Lost In Space robot that uttered, “Danger! Danger, Will Robinson!” Just last month the voice of robot B9, Dick Tufeld, passed away – funny how his “robot” will remain a hip cultural meme 50 years after the show. I gently wrangled my wandering mind back to the task at hand.

Honoring Lily and Jane: A lifetime of love and companionship

On Friday March 16 beloved comedienne Lily Tomlin and her longtime life and creative partner, writer Jane Wagner, will be honored by the Palm Springs Walk of Stars. The public is invited to the 4 p.m. Walk of Stars dedication ceremony at The Corridor, 515 N Palm Canyon. A champagne reception, hosted by Mark Anton, Scott Histed, and The Corridor merchants, immediately follows the ceremony.

Spin Around: DJ Scotty K will be at White Party

When I saw DJ Scotty K’s name on the list of DJs performing at this year’s White Party, I immediately remembered the time I lunched with Scotty and some other friends at The Abbey in West Hollywood. That was about five years ago and I have not seen Scotty since. Excited that he was coming to Palm Springs, I reached out to him hoping he would give me an interview for my column. It was great catching up with him.

Meet "The Help" star Octavia Spencer, and find out why she has a big gay following

Every year there is that one movie. It doesn’t have to be a big budget production (and most times, it’s not), or a far out Indie film that makes you ask, ‘what just happened?’ when the lights go up in the theater. No, it’s that one movie that makes a connection with you, the audience member, that seems personal – yet it must be universal when you begin seeing the accolades it garners at the end of the year.

Minding his business: John Waters

I have known John Waters for over 37 years now. I was 24 when we first met in Baltimore at a birthday party for Divine. My roommate at the time, “Crazy Margaret,” took me as her date. I had just finished college and was working at my family’s insurance agency. At the time, I was living downtown, which was basically abandoned at night as everyone fled at five o’clock for the safe suburbs (with good reason as Baltimore had been declared the murder capital of America).
