Meet Stuart Milk, up close and personal

In the past 12 months, the name Stuart Milk has been thrust into the limelight. Yet in all the interviews, and all the conversations, no one has really taken the opportunity to get up close and personal with the man behind the Milk. And for this, our Pride issue, we wanted to allow our readers a better understanding of what it was like, growing up with Harvey.

What’s the first memory you have of your uncle?

Catching up with Blake Lewis

Anyone who tuned into season six of "American Idol" knew to expect the unexpected of Blake Lewis.

The Washington native, who admitted he hadn’t watched a single episode before auditioning in Seattle, arrived in Hollywood without a hint of a plan, other than to be himself. Yet through talent, instinct, creativity and unapologetic brashness, Lewis managed to make it all the way to the finale as the first runner-up to Jordin Sparks, each week showcasing a different side to his endlessly eclectic musical identity.

Outfest spotlight on Stephen Guarino: "Big Gay Sketch Show" star hits the big screen

Stephen Guarino is best known for his terrific performances on "The Big Gay Sketch Show," but over the last two years he has quietly developed a reputation as a skilled big-screen performer, landing roles in several big-budget films.

Happily, mainstream success hasn’t pulled him away from gay-themed projects – including two films at Outfest 2010. I recently spoke with the affable actor about both the Outfest films and his upwardly mobile career arc.

I read somewhere that as a kid you spent one day on The Mickey Mouse Club. Is that true?

LOS ANGELES -- Outfest, the nation’s leading LGBT film festival, now in its 28th year, presents 147 films (60 features and 87 shorts) July 8 – 18 in Los Angeles. Amazingly, Outfest is LA’s oldest continually operating film festival.

VIDEO: Outfest spotlight on director Guy Shalem

He spent eight years as an editor on various independent films, commercials, and TV projects. He got his first break directing on a reality show pilot called Aphrodite Jones Investigates.

More nurture than nature - an interview with filmmaker Gina Hirsch

A film that’s sure to move you to tears of laughter featured in this year’s Les Girls program, is a short by Gina Hirsch called 'You Move Me." This comedic lesbian buddy movie deals with a topic we are all too familiar with—the break up. I recently had the chance to ask Hirsch, who works as a film editor in LA about her filmmaking foray.

BottomLine: Well, I guess first off, can you tell our readers a little bit about yourself?

Alain Hain talks about his three films showing June 24 at Palm Springs festival

PALM SPRINGS -- The highlight of this year’s Gay!La program at the Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films is a trilogy of films by Alain Hain.

The films, "Curious Thing," "the in-between" and "A Lack of Gravity" are narrative-style documentaries examining contemporary gay life.

Alain Hain’s trilogy screens as part of the Gay!La shorts program, “Couple Up,” Thursday, June 24, 7:30 p.m. at the Camelot Theatre.

I recently spoke with Hain about his work.

What is your background as a filmmaker?

PALM SPRINGS: A chat with ShortFest’s Darryl Macdonald and Kathleen McInnis

PALM SPRINGS -- Every year, one of the cinematic highlights of the summer (and the whole year for that matter) is certainly the Palm Springs International Festival of Short Film, or ShortFest for short.

In addition to the screenings, ShortFest also offers a Short Film Market for industry people and filmmakers, as well as seminars, master classes, director panels and of course the beloved nightly receptions. Gay!La anyone?

Natural nutrition makes all the difference

Dogs and cats are more than just pets; they are members of our families. In fact for millions of us, pets are our children. The average lifespan for a pet varies by breed, size, and their living environment. What you chose to feed your pet can have a significant impact on the quality of life and in some cases, help them live longer too.

"Pet Issue" Part I: Paradise found at Living Free sanctuary

“Dogs are our link to paradise. They don’t know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring — it was peace.” - Milan Kundera, Czech author of "The Unbearable Lightness Of Being"

“I love my cats because I love my home, and little by little they become its visible soul.”- French playwright Jean Cocteau
