Ex-Gay No Way: Survival and recovery from religious abuse

Jallen Rix has come a long way from his Southern Baptist Roots to be a Sexologist. In his new book he tells of his journey through the ex-gay movement, the research he amassed, and what he did to accept, liberate and integrate his gay sexuality and spirituality. Bottomline talked with Dr. Rix about his new book...

Bottomline: This is not the first time your presence has graced the pages of our magazines.

A Little "Idol" time with Frenchie

You know how some singers have that presence, that certain je ne sais quoi that immediately commands you attention? Frenchie Davis is one such performer—and that is even before she starts to sing.

Blessed with a rich, powerful singing voice reminiscent of Aretha Franklin, her singing prowess has kept her working long after the artificial and mercurial limelight of American Idol has faded. Unlike so many other ex-Idols, Frenchie has a promising career ahead of her; whether it be in music or, as she’s hoping, TV and film.

Have you ever wondered what life might be like if “fabulous” was your full time job? Well, for celebrity make-up artist Brian Bond (aka Foxxy Roxxy) – it’s a reality. From red carpet premiers, to the Grammys, to the Playboy Mansion, at the age of 29, Brian has established a name for himself throughout the entertainment industry.

Cabaret Out of the Box - Queensrÿche’s Geoff Tate welcomes you to the show

Ok, I know what you might be thinking, why is a progressive metal band gracing the pages of BottomLine? Easy, Queensrÿche is bringing their Cabaret to The Show on May 21 and May 22 and it’s not what you might expect.

The Two Faces of NOH8 - Adam Bouska and Jeff Parshley

While the origins of the old adage “A picture is worth a 1,000 words” is often disputed, today’s sound-bite media inarguably demonstrates its wisdom.

Condensing a statement into a single image can be a powerful tool, just ask photographer Adam Bouska and his partner Jeff Parshley -- whose NOH8 campaign is becoming one of the most successful grassroots organization to promote marriage equality in the state of California. And the way Adam and Jeff see it, California is just the beginning — they have a much broader vision for NOH8 in the future.

Athletes in Action: Golf Scramble will benefit man’s best friend

I received a text message from my friend Tom Cloutier that read…”Are you ready for a good scramble?”

After reading the text, I was thinking it would be one of two things, both of which I like. My first thought was that Tom was going to invite me over for breakfast. Then another thought popped into my mind that it might be a golf scramble that would include Tom, two friends and myself. This time last year Hunters Night Club sponsored the Orphan Pet Oasis Charity Golf Tourney.

Evening Under the Stars gala is May 1 in Palm Springs

Back in 1974, gas was 55 cents a gallon, the pocket calculator was the latest gadget, Leonard DiCaprio was born, and the Swedish pop band ABBA made it big on the world stage after winning the Eurovision Song Contest with their catchy single Waterloo.

Nearly four decades and 370 million records later, at this year’s 17th annual Evening Under the Stars gala on May 1 benefiting AIDS Assistance Program, Arrival From Sweden - “world’s greatest ABBA tribute band” - will take the stage on the green at the O’Donnell Golf Club and pay homage to the enduring music of the “other” Fab Four.

The lady. The music. The legend.

You may remember her as Julia, the nurse who stole everyone’s hearts as the first black female character on prime-time TV, or if you are a little younger, maybe she captivated you with her vixen-esque depiction of Dominque Deveraux in the intoxicating nighttime serial "Dynasty."

Broadway fanatics no doubt relished her portrayal of silent-screen star Norma Desmond in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s "Sunset Boulevard" -- the first woman of color to take on that heady role.

The Tree and The Apple: Interviews with Anne and Christopher Rice

UCR Palm Desert hosted best-selling authors Anne and Christopher Rice on April 3 in a conversation moderated by fellow author Tod Goldberg.

I recently spoke with both Anne and Christopher, in separate interviews, about their most recent novels and their unique mother-son relationship. Since I was interviewing them separately, I thought it might be fun to ask each of them essentially the same questions, allowing readers to examine their familial similarities and differences.
