WASHINGTON -- Working with Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN), Lady Gaga has put out a call for action to help repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" (DADT).
The pop music and fashion icon has transformed her website, www.LadyGaga.com, into an action page directing people to SLDN's Repeal DADT page.
The campaign encourages participants to tell Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., along with their home state senators to vote next week to end DADT.
SLDN has provided the phone number to the Capitol switchboard that is staffed 24 hours a day: (202) 224-3121. Operators will be able to connect callers with their home state senators.
SLDN and Lady Gaga are asking that the following key senators be called now:
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.
Senator John McCain, R-Ariz.
Also, SLDN is asking that callers report back to tell Gaga about their calls. A U.S. soldier stationed in Iraq posted his comment last night. "Thank you Lady Gaga! I called my Senators from Iraq ... it took all of three minutes (one minute was dedicated to all the numbers I had to push on the telephone). Let's keep the pressure up!" commented Tony from Joint Base Balad, Iraq.
Visit www.SLDN.org/Gaga for more information and to report back.
