OCEANSIDE, Calif. -- As members of the LGBT community in the northern part of San Diego County move from "dream" to "reality" in their quest to build an LGBTQ Resource Center in the area, the North County LGBT Coalition will host a town hall meeting to discuss plans for the new space.
The public event, which will be held Friday, Sept. 30, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, will provide a forum for community members to ask questions, and give feedback to the coalition board members, who are spearheading the effort.
The group also plans to announce the winner of its LGBTQ Resource Center logo contest at the meeting.
In May, the coalition announced a fundraiser event, inviting community members to "imagine the reality of a LGBT center in North County, which would be a place for community members to come together to find resources and support."
Since that time, the group has raised thousands of dollars for the cause and is getting closer to solidifying plans for the new center. Board members say that they want to hear from everyone in the community as they plan for the future home of the LGBT community in North County.
Besides working to create the LGBTQ Resource Center, the North County LGBT Coalition has been actively involved in the fight for equality and other educational and support activities. The all volunteer organization hosts monthly meetings, and the annual "Pride @ the Beach!" celebration each October.
The town hall forum will be held in the community rooms at the Oceanside Library, 300 North Coast Highway.
