VIDEO: Mo'Nique stands up for marriage equality

WASHINGTON -- Following its successful New Yorkers for Marriage Equality campaign, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) has launched a nationwide effort, Americans for Marriage Equality.

HRC created the campaign to continue the conversation about marriage equality across the United States, featuring video messages from prominent actors, athletes and public figures.

The campaign has already featured videos by Newark, N.J. Mayor Cory Booker, Oscar winner Mo’Nique, civil rights legend Julian Bond, Emmy Award winner John Leguizamo, and acclaimed Broadway playwright Katori Hall.

HRC says that nearly 53% of the American supports marriage for same-sex couples, citing a number of polls including Gallup, CNN and Washington Post/ABC News.

The organization plans to release more videos in the coming months, and play off the Americans for Marriage Equality brand with Republicans for Marriage Equality, African-Americans for Marriage Equality, Latinos for Marriage Equality and Elected Officials for Marriage Equality.

In her video, popular comedienne, actress and talk show host Mo'Nique encourages American to stand up for marriage equality.

"All that's being asked for is the right marry which, ironically, promotes commitment, family and love," Mo'Nique said.
