SAN DIEGO -- As part of National Bike Month, the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) annually organizes "Bike to Work Day," to be held Friday, May 18.
Bike to Work 2012 is organized to support bicycling as a viable, environmentally friendly, cost-saving commute choice. Those who plan to ride their bicycles to work that day are encouraged to register online in advance.
Last year, more than 6,000 cyclists rode to work as part of the event, and the organization hopes to increase that number this year. All registered participants receive a free "Bike to Work" T-shirt.
Those who are unable to ride their bicycle to work on "Bike to Work Day" can still participate by hosting a "pit stop."
Pit stops offer breathers for new and experienced cyclists on Bike to Work Day, and are places where riders can rest and pick up their T-shirts, water, snacks, and encouragement. Individuals or companies who to host a pit stop at their home or place of business should register by April 13. iCommute will provides the giveaways for registered pit stops to distribute.
Organizers hope to have more than 80 pit stops across the county this year.
Companies who are interested in taking a bigger role in "Bike to Work Day" can also register for the iCommute Corporate Challenge. Details are available HERE.
