Defense Secretary Robert Gates vows to move ahead on DADT repeal

WASHINGTON -- Robert Gates, the outgoing secretary of defense, told The Associated Press on Monday that he a prepared to move forward this month on the repeal certification of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" (DADT).

“SLDN is pleased to see Secretary Gates clearly state that he is prepared to certify ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ repeal before he leaves his post at the end of the month," said Army veteran Aubrey Sarvis, executive director of Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN).

SDGLN exclusive: Active duty servicemembers asked to participate in San Diego Pride Parade

SAN DIEGO -- A small group of troops are working with San Diego Pride to organize a contingent to honor LGBT active duty and veteran servicemembers at this year's San Diego LGBT Pride Parade.

While LGBT veterans groups have participated in San Diego's Pride Parade for a number of years, organizers believe that this is the first time an active push has been made to also encourage those currently serving in the U.S. armed forces to walk.

VIDEO: Airman discharged under DADT policy

WASHINGTON - The Air Force has enforced the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” (DADT) policy banning gays from serving openly, discharging an airman on April 29.

So far, the identity of the airman is not known. The Air Force uses the term “airman” to describe both male and female servicemembers.

Navy memo authorizes Chaplains to perform same-sex marriages on base once DADT is history

WASHINGTON -- Yesterday marked 120 days since President Barack Obama signed legislation allowing for the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” (DADT).

To call attention to the days, weeks, and months that continue to pass with DADT still in effect, Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN) unveiled a digital clock on its website to mark the time passed since the signing of the repeal legislation.
