Eight horses dead in likely hate-crime arson in Ohio

McCONNELSVILLE, Ohio – Eight horses, including a week-old foal and a pregnant mare, died in a blaze Sunday night in rural Ohio after an arsonist spray-painted “fags are freaks” and “burn in hell” on a barn and torching it.

The horrified property owner Brent Whitehouse tried desperately to rescue his horses, but the blaze was already out of control. He told authorities that he frantically tried to open the barn door, but the heat and flames were too intense.

ROSEDALE, Md, - A transgender woman who was brutally beaten at a Baltimore area McDonald’s spoke out on Saturday, and said the attack was “definitely a hate crime” and that she’s been afraid to go out in public ever since.

VIDEO: In Louisiana, police think gay man was victim of vicious hate crime

SHREVEPORT, La. -- Police say 52-year-old John Skaggs was hospitalized after he was attacked at the Sandbar nightclub in downtown Shreveport.

"He's going to have some pretty serious reconstructive surgery, broken jaw, and broken bone that holds his eye socket," said Tim Huck, the manager and owner of the Sandbar.

Security personnel at the Sandbar held the alleged attacker, William Payne, until police arrived.

Payne was arrested and charged with attempted second degree murder and the commission of a hate crime.

In Canada, holiday turns into nightmare for gay couple

NAKUSP, British Columbia -- An idyllic cross-country ski trip through the West Kootenays turned nightmarish for a gay couple when an unprovoked hate attack left one of the men lying bloodied in the snow, begging for mercy.

Nakusp RCMP said the couple were at the popular St. Leon's Hot Springs, off a forest service road just outside Nakusp, the night of Dec. 29 when they struck up a conversation with two men and a woman who'd joined them in the pool.

One of the men introduced himself as Terry, and said he was from Calgary.
