Michael Bublé says he is "absolutely" an advocate for equality

DENVER -- Matthew's Place, an online resource forum for LGBTQ youth, recently sat down with Grammy Award winning Canadian singer Michael Bublé for an interview.

Bublé, who says he is "absolutely" an advocate for equality, reached out to Matthew's Place because the recent news that anti-LGBTQ bullying is running rampant through our schools was "sickening" to him.

Matthew's Place is a project of the Matthew Shepard Foundation, which was created by Shepard's mother Judy following his death in 1998.

VIDEO: Hate crime is reported in Tulsa, Okla.

TULSA, Okla. – Two men tell police that they were attacked late Saturday, Nov. 20, while leaving a downtown Tulsa gay bar.

They tell Fox 23 in Tulsa that the suspects were lurking nearby, waiting for people to exit Club Majestic.

Jerrid, 25, asked not to reveal his last name. He says he was knocked unconscious and that he and his friend were badly beaten.
Jerrid had a busted lip, a swollen face and other bruising and injuries.

Anti-gay slur painted on car at UMass Dartmouth

DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- An openly gay student at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth was the target of harassment over the weekend, when he discovered hate speech painted on his car, school officials said.

John Hoey, UMass Dartmouth spokesman, said that on Saturday afternoon the student found his car vandalized with a homophobic slur scrawled across the side in spray paint.

Arrests made in suspected Vancouver gay bashing

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Canada -- Police have arrested two men in connection to a suspected gay bashing in downtown Vancouver last month.

Thomas Pope reported that two men approached him outside the McDonald's restaurant at Tinseltown Mall in the early hours of Oct. 8. He told CTV News that the pair shouted homophobic slurs and then punched him in the mouth several times.

A 22-year-old Port Moody man and a 20-year-old Fort St. John man have both been arrested in their hometowns in connection with the assault, and Vancouver police are recommending assault charges.

American Apparel responds to Wisconsin hate crime with free "Legalize Gay" T-shirts

WHITEWATER, Wisc. -- The apparel company that makes "Legalize Gay" T-shirts is reaching out to UW-Whitewater in the wake of an off-campus hate crime last month.

American Apparel shipped 500 of the shirts to the university, asking the student organization IMPACT to give them away to students who want them. The company also bought a one-page ad in the student publication, condemning the attack.

Bartender at NYC's oldest gay bar, Julius Bar, attacked in gay bias beating; latest in spate

NEW YORK -- A bartender at the city's oldest gay bar was slugged in what authorities described Monday as yet another bias attack in New York.

Suspect Frederick Giunta, 25, is charged with beating up two men on Oct. 11.

Guinta first attacked a man in front of 114 Christopher St., grabbing his wallet and cutting his face with a punch, authorities said. About 10 minutes later, at 5:40 p.m., he slugged a man two blocks away inside the Julius Bar, the city's oldest gay watering hole, authorities said.

NYPD arrests 11th man in brutal Bronx gay-bashing attack

NEW YORK -- An eleventh man wanted in the sadistic gay-bashing attack in the Bronx was arrested Thursday, cops said.

Police collared Luis Garcia, 26, inside his home on Hennessy Place in Morris Heights around 5 p.m. for the brutal gang beating of a gay man, his older brother and two teenagers on Oct. 3.

Garcia wrapped a chain around his fist and punched the 30-year-old gay man twice in his face during the attack, police said.

Fourth teen charged in anti-gay attack on school bus in New York

HICKSVILLE, N.Y. -- A fourth teenager has been accused of beating a 14-year-old boy on a school bus this week because they suspected he was gay, and three of them taunted him about it, Nassau County police said.

The latest suspect to be arrested is a 14-year-old Elmont boy whose name was not released because he was charged as a juvenile. He was charged with assault a hate crime and aggravated harassment, same as 18-year-old David Spencer of North Valley Stream and Chase Morrison, 16, of Lakeview.
