Fourth teen charged in anti-gay attack on school bus in New York

HICKSVILLE, N.Y. -- A fourth teenager has been accused of beating a 14-year-old boy on a school bus this week because they suspected he was gay, and three of them taunted him about it, Nassau County police said.

The latest suspect to be arrested is a 14-year-old Elmont boy whose name was not released because he was charged as a juvenile. He was charged with assault a hate crime and aggravated harassment, same as 18-year-old David Spencer of North Valley Stream and Chase Morrison, 16, of Lakeview.

NEW YORK -- Angered by a gay bashing at the famed Stonewall Inn, gay rights activists gathered in front of the West Village bar on Tuesday night in a show of solidarity.

Members of the city's Anti-Violence Project passed out tip sheets on how to avoid becoming the victim of hate crimes and implored people to call the group's hotline - at (212) 714-1141 - if attacked.

"We want to say we're not going to be intimidated," said Joyce Choi Won Li, an organizer with the group. "We're going to keep being who we are and we're going to demand and keep working for respect, safety and equality."

Activist, police chief discuss possible hate crimes in Louisville, Ky.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Louisville's police chief met with the director of the Fairness Campaign after two burglaries led to concerns of hate crimes.

Two Louisville homes within blocks of each other, both occupied by gay couples, were vandalized with ketchup, bleach and toilet cleaner over the past few weeks.

The incidents have attracted more than local interest -- since the first incident almost two weeks ago, WLKY's coverage has gotten more than 6,000 hits online from all over the world.

NEW YORK -- Somebody give these thugs a history lesson.

Two Staten Island men were busted for brutally bashing a gay man in a bathroom of the famed Stonewall Inn, the West Village bar where the gay-rights movement was born, police said yesterday.

Matthew Francis, 21, and Christopher Orlando, 17, punched and tackled Benjamin Carver early Sunday after asking the Washington resident if he was gay, calling him a "faggot" and demanding money, authorities said.

Carver, 34, fought back.

WHITEWATER, Wisc. – Whitewater police are investigating a hate crime.

They say a woman was punched in the face because the attackers thought she was gay.

With the attackers still on the loose many on campus are outraged, most of all those fearing they may now be targets.

Gay waiter stabbed in neck, throat in possible hate crime

SANTA MARIA – Multiple news sources are reporting that a gay waiter at the Denny’s Restaurant was stabbed in the neck and throat early Thursday morning and that police are investigating the incident as a hate crime.

The Santa Maria Times said the victim, who is in his 30s, is expected to survive the attack that occurred around 3:30 a.m. Sept. 16.

Curtis Martin, 24, was arrested after fleeing the scene. The Associated Press reports that police said the suspect asked the victim if he was gay, then attacked him with a knife that was in his possession.

At least 10 LGBT community members have been murdered recently in Puerto Rico

This week, two transgender women were found dead alongside Highway 512 in Juana Díaz, Puerto Rico. Both had been shot in the head.

A local political leader in Aguada, Puerto Rico, was beaten to death. The two male suspects who confessed to this crime alleged that they killed him because he solicited them for “sexual favors.”

At least 10 LGBT people have been murdered in the past year in Puerto Rico, and human rights activists from around the world are taking notice.

In New York, where there is a large population of Puerto Rican natives, people are beginning to take action.
