Eleventh Circuit Court rules in favor of HIV-positive man denied job as Atlanta police officer

ATLANTA -- The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit reversed a lower court ruling and remanded the case of Lambda Legal client, Richard Roe, back to district court on Wednesday.

Roe applied to be a police officer with the Atlanta Police Department (APD), but was denied employment because of his HIV status.

Mark Ishaug resigns as AIDS United president and CEO

WASHINGTON -- Mark Ishaug is stepping down as president and CEO of AIDS United, effective Feb. 29.

Ishaug has accepted a position as CEO of Thresholds, a Chicago-based non-profit focused on serving persons with mental illness.

After Ishaug's departure, Victor Barnes, senior vice president, will serve as interim president and CEO. The board of trustees expects to commence a process to select a permanent president and CEO shortly.

Failure to address pandemic among gay men, MSM imperils goal of “AIDS-free generation”

NEW YORK — Funding to prevent and treat HIV/AIDS consistently fails to reach programs designed to control the disease among gay men and other men who have sex with men (MSM), according to a new analysis released Wednesday.

The report, released by amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research and the Center for Public Health and Human Rights (CPHHR) at Johns Hopkins University, finds that resources dedicated to addressing the epidemic among MSM are grossly insufficient, and that funding intended for this population is often diverted away from MSM-related services.

San Ysidro Health Center wins AIDS Walk & Run fundraising competition grant

SAN DIEGO – To increase contributions to last year's AIDS Walk & Run San Diego, a number of organizations that provide services to people living with HIV/AIDS participated in a special team fundraising competition.

The San Ysidro Health Center is the recipient of this first-ever competition, called the AIDS Walk $10,000 Team Fundraising Competition grant.

AIDS Assistance Program, Walgreens give out holiday stockings to those in need

PALM SPRINGS – AIDS Assistance Program (AAP), an essential community-service organization that provides much-needed food to men, women and their dependent children living with HIV/AIDS in the greater Palm Springs area, has joined forces with Walgreens Pharmacy to provide Christmas stockings filled with toiletries and personal care items to clients who currently receive assistance from AAP.

The distribution took place today at 9 am at the AAP office in Palm Springs. In addition to the stockings, each client received a roasting chicken courtesy of AAP.
