LOS ANGELES – Emmy Award-winning actor/activist LeVar Burton has become a spokesman for AIDS Research Alliance's AIDS cure research campaign and will headline its Oct. 13 annual benefit, Art Deco & Jazz, at downtown LA’s fabled Cicada Restaurant.

SAN DIEGO -- For more than two decades, AIDS Walk & Run San Diego has been raising money for HIV/AIDS service organizations and increasing awareness about the ongoing HIV/AIDS epidemic.

SATURDAY: Healthcare Hooligans to host AIDS Walk fundraiser

SAN DIEGO -- To raise money for AIDS Walk & Run San Diego, the team that calls itself the "Healthcare Hooligans" will host a fundraiser on Saturday, July 30, from 2 to 5 pm at Fiesta Cantina in Hillcrest.

Team members will be selling Jello-O shots and collecting donations throughout the afternoon, with all proceeds benefiting local HIV/AIDS service providers.

Bourbon Street to host Aug. 18 wine-tasting fundraiser for Mama's Kitchen

SAN DIEGO -- Bourbon Street in University Heights will host Mama's Kitchen's 16th annual Wine Tasting Event on Thursday, Aug. 18, from 6 to 9 pm.

Partygoers will experience eclectic wine tastings with pours throughout the evening, while enjoying a sumptuous selection of hors d'oeuvres. Proceeds go directly to the daily operations of Mama's Kitchen, the only non-profit in San Diego that prepares and delivers three meals a day, for seven days a week, at no charge to men, women, and children affected by AIDS/HIV or cancer.

San Diego County Walgreens stores to accept donations for AIDS Walk & Run

SAN DIEGO -- Customers of Walgreens stores can easily contribute to AIDS Walk & Run San Diego while shopping through July 28.

The drugstore chain launched an in-store campaign at all 26 of its San Diego County locations in late June, giving customers the option to make $1 or $5 donations along with their purchases. Those who make a donation are able to print their name on a pledge card that will be hung in the store.

Attention foodies: Food trucks to park Thursday at The Center for AIDS Walk & Run fundraiser

SAN DIEGO – Thirteen of San Diego’s finest food trucks will return to Hillcrest this week to support The Center’s AIDS Walk & Run team.

This foodie event dubbed "Food Truck Fabulousness" will take place on Thursday, July 14, from 5 to 9 pm in the parking lot of The Center, 3909 Centre St. in Hillcrest.

Attendees will be able to support The Center team’s efforts by purchasing beverages. There will be additional opportunities to become involved with and contribute to this year’s AIDS Walk & Run San Diego.

Anti-gay remarks by India’s health minister rebuked

NEW DELHI, India – The controversial and homophobic remarks by India’s health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has drawn widespread criticism by LGBT civil rights supporters.

Azad was speaking at a meeting of elected officials from around India on the need for open talk about sexual issues when he strayed into considerable controversy in comments on sex workers and men who have sex with men (MSM).

He stressed the urgency for preventative efforts for MSM, but didn’t stop there.

Mama's Kitchen hopes to collect 100 barrels of food through "Independence from Hunger" campaign this July
