VIDEO: Nearly 500 San Diegans support Mama's Kitchen's annual Mama's Day foodie event

SAN DIEGO -- The Hyatt Aventine Hotel in La Jolla was transformed into a culinary paradise Friday night as community members came together in support of Mama's Kitchen for the organization's annual Mama's Day event.

Proceeds from the event, which serves as Mama's Kitchen's largest fundraiser of the year, will help the organization continue its mission of preparing and delivering three meals a day, seven days a week, at no cost to hundreds of San Diegans who are affected illnesses such as AIDS and cancer.

It's time for Dining Out For Life! Charity never tasted so good!

SAN DIEGO – On Thursday, April 28, for the fifth consecutive year, San Diegans will participate in a nationwide tradition spanning over three decades.

To help battle the alarming fact that every nine-and-a-half minutes an American is infected with HIV, diners will flock to participating neighborhood restaurants and help raise vital money for HIV/AIDS research and treatment by doing one simple thing: Eating!

Meet Ann Njeri, 29, a Kenyan crusader against HIV/AIDS

Once again this column has connected me, and consequently you, with a profoundly inspiring woman, Ann Njeri, a 29-year-old HIV/AIDS awareness activist and advocate living in Nairobi, Kenya.

Ann and her older brother were brought up by their single mom at their grandmother’s house in the village of Kianjege East.

Ann’s journey into the world of HIV/AIDS began in Uganda when she lost both a friend and a relative to the disease. “I became concerned about the people affected and infected with HIV,” she said.

San Diego food trucks to join Dining Out For Life fundraiser on April 28

SAN DIEGO – You can enjoy one of the hottest food trends – and some of the most amazing cuisine – and support HIV/AIDS services and prevention programs at the same time.

On Thursday, April 28, a gathering of some of the area’s most sought-after food trucks will gather in the parking lot of The Center from 5 to 9 pm as part of the fifth annual Dining Out for Life San Diego.

Each will each donate a minimum of 25% of their day’s sales to the event. The Center is located at 3909 Centre St., San Diego, CA 92103.

ACTION ALERT: Today is National Call-In Day to support federal funding for HIV/AIDS programs!

WASHINGTON -- Congress has not yet passed a final Fiscal Year 2011 funding bill.

Short-term FY 2011 funding for government programs runs out at midnight on Friday, April 8, and programs that support health care and other services for people with HIV/AIDS are at risk for cuts.

Your help is urgently needed to:

-- Protect funding for HIV/AIDS treatment, prevention, and research.

-- Protect funding for global health.

-- Stop Congress from reinstating the ban on using federal and DC government funds to support syringe exchange programs.

SUNDAY: Integrité Salon to kick off 10,000 Kisses campaign to benefit Being Alive

SAN DIEGO -- To raise critically needed funds for Being Alive San Diego, Integrité Salon has created a project called 10,000 Kisses.

The goal of the project is to raise $10,000 for the organization and to give customers and community members a way to support Being Alive and become involved in the community.

SAN DIEGO -- Casey Fields has joined the Dining Out for Life San Diego team as coordinator of this year’s volunteers.

The success of Dining Out For Life (DOFL) would not be possible without the scores of people who volunteer as Ambassadors.

Ambassadors are assigned to a participating restaurant, bar or coffee shop (location of their choice) and they invite everyone they know to dine at their location during their shift on the day of the event.
