Desert AIDS Project to mark National HIV Testing Day in Indio and Palm Springs

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – In its ongoing commitment to free and confidential HIV testing, Desert AIDS Project will also be providing a $10 gift card for those who are tested – and wait the 20 minutes for their test results – at D.A.P.’s Indio satellite office on Wednesday, June 27, from 11 am to 5 pm, as long as the supply of gift cards last.

The office is located at 81-880 Dr Carreon Blvd, Suite B-107 in Indio. Although appointments are not necessary, anyone wishing to make one may call 760-342-4197.

Free San Diego Pride festival tickets available for takers of "The Early Test" for HIV

SAN DIEGO -- UC San Diego's Antiviral Research Center (AVRC) will again offer free tickets to this year's San Diego LGBT Pride Festival to those who take an HIV test at their facilities through July 18.

Those who schedule an appointment for a free, confidential between June 15 and July 18 will receive a free one-day ticket to the festival, which will be held July 21-22.

In San Diego, Kemet Coalition to offer free HIV testing on June 24

SAN DIEGO -- The Faith-Based Working Group (FBWG) of the Kemet Coalition will be hosting a National HIV Testing Day event on Sunday, June 24, from 11 am to 3 pm.

This event will take place in the parking lot of the Rite Aid Pharmacy, 1735 Euclid Ave. San Diego, CA 92105.

Along with HIV testing, the event will provide advocacy, education, prevention and awareness of HIV/AIDS in San Diego County.

Being Alive to present Art & Soul fundraising event on June 23

SAN DIEGO -- Art & Soul, Being Alive San Diego's signature fundraising event, will be held from 6-9 pm Saturday, June 23.

Formerly known as Soul Plates, each year celebrity artists create one-of-a-kind art pieces that are auctioned off at the event, which typically attracts over 250 guests.

Lawmakers support updating policy that bans gays from donating blood

WASHINGTON – Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) and Rep. Mike Quigley (D-Ill.) today sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) voicing support for a new pilot study reviewing the policy that bans gay and bisexual men from donating blood.

Michael Bennett (D-Colo.), Mark Udall (D-Colo.), Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.), Carl Levin (D-Mich.), Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), Daniel Akaka (D-Hawaii), Bernie Sanders (I – Vt.) Mark Begich (D-Alaska) and Patty Murray (D-Wash.) co-signed the letter.

AIDS/LifeCycle 11: Riders continue on their journey during Day 3

PASO ROBLES, Calif. -- After a difficult Day 2, which was dampened by rain, injuries and delays, AIDS/LifeCycle 11 riders had a much easier third day.

Sean Suydam, an AIDS/LifeCycle Team San Diego training ride leader who is providing updates from the road during this year's seven day trek, said that the third day of the ride was back to business as usual, and even had a surprise ending with most riders finishing two hours earlier than planned.
