MUSIC VIDEO: Nhojj’s “Amazing Grace” puts a marriage-equality spin on gospel classic

NEW YORK – The award-winning singer Nhojj has released a music video of “Amazing Grace,” using the traditional Christian hymn to uplift and inspire gays and lesbian who are fighting for marriage equality.

The Guyanese alternative soul singer, who is openly gay, said he will be celebrating Easter this year with his new interpretation of the gospel classic, which was written in 1779.

WASHINGTON -- Former New York Police Department (NYPD) Commissioner Bill Bratton and his wife Rikki Klieman are the latest iconic residents of the "Big Apple" who have taken a stand for marriage equality.

Bratton and Klieman have joined in the Human Right's Campaign's "New Yorkers for Marriage Equality" campaign, a collection of videos centered on sharing testimonials from New Yorkers who support the right of same-sex couples to marry.

Study: Catholics lead on LGBT equality

SAN DIEGO -- A new national study has found that Catholics are more supportive of legal recognition of same-sex relationships than any other Christian group, and than Americans overall.

The study, released March 22 by the Public Religion Research Institute, showed that 74% of American Catholics believe that gay and lesbian couples should be able to marry or form civil unions.

In addition, 71% of Catholics support civil marriage “like you get at civic hall.”

ACTION ALERT: Drop the charges against the Equality 9!

Nine residents of San Diego are facing charges including up to 90 days of jail time if convicted, simply for sitting in at the County Clerk's Office on Aug. 19, 2010, to demand marriage licenses for themselves and their friends. Those nine people ask you to sign this letter to the City Attorney asking him NOT to file charges against the Equality 9.

NCLR to present March 28 webinar on tax filing requirements for same-sex couples

SAN FRANCISCO -- With "tax day" fast approaching, the National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR) is sponsoring a free webinar that will explain new Internal Revenue Service (IRS) rules and requirements for same-sex couples.

The webinar will take place on Monday, March 28.

According to NCLR, there are a number of new mandatory federal tax filing requirements for registered domestic partners and same sex married couples, which can often be difficult to navigate.

In the video, the upstate New Yorkers say, “We’re raising our three kids to treat everyone with dignity and respect. We believe everyone should have the right and the chance to be with the person they love – straight or gay.”

Recent studies are increasingly supportive of the idea that marriage equality will have not only moral and psychological impacts on the people involved, but could also bring economic prosperity to their states in the long term.

Same-sex couples nationwide to take part in marriage counter actions

On Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, same-sex couples will once again request marriage licenses at their local County Clerk's Offices in cities all over the country.

These actions will not only draw attention to the lack of marriage equality between heterosexual and LGBT Americans, but it will also raise awareness about the harms and the impact that the inability to marry causes on LGBT families.
