COLLINGSWOOD, N.J. -- “I HAVE no secrets anymore,” said the actress Kelly McGillis, 53, on the mid-September day on which she and her longtime partner, Melanie Leis, 42, were joined in a civil union in this quiet southern New Jersey town — far from Hollywood’s TMZ camera crews.

“And in some ways that’s a relief,” Ms. McGillis — she of the iconic “Top Gun” poster, with her arms draped on Tom Cruise’s shoulder — added as she sat with Ms. Leis, a sales executive, on the roomy porch of the Craftsman-style home they share here.
