Tax records: Chick-fil-A donations to anti-LGBT groups nearly doubled in 2011

Fast-food chain Chick-fil-A — embroiled in a controversy last year surrounding the millions of dollars it donated in 2009 and 2010 to anti-gay organizations — almost doubled it’s charitable donations to anti-gay groups in 2011, according to newly released IRS documents.

SAN DIEGO -- The Second Class Citizens Campaign is coming to San Diego with a stop at Rich's nightclub on Friday, March 15.

Ryan James Yezak, project director, is working on creating a documentary that focuses on LGBT individuals in the United States being treated like second class citizens.

Over 200 photos have already been taken and Yezak hopes to capture many more at Friday's photo shoot and other planned stops.

"Come pose and declare to the world that you are NOT a second class citizen," Yezak wrote in a Facebook event post.

First-ever lesbian glossy appears despite anti-gay ban in Russia

The inaugural issue of a lesbian glossy hits newsstands in Russia this month, in defiance of a proposed law banning all “homosexual propaganda” and increased violence and discrimination against gays and lesbians in the country.

The magazine — Agens, which means “driving force” in Latin — features androgynous fashion spreads and coming-out stories and may serve as a vital source of community and connection for gay, lesbian and transgender communities restricted from publicly organizing.

LGBT Red Rock Golf Classic debuts May 4-6 in Sedona, Ariz.

SEDONA, Ariz. – Hilton Sedona Resort & Spa and the adjacent Sedona Golf Resort are set to host the first LGBT Red Rock Golf Classic benefiting Camp Soaring Eagle and Sedona Pride.

The golf tournament will run throughout the weekend of May 4-6. The entry fee is $125 per player and includes green fee, cart fee, complimentary practice balls, goody bag and lunch following play.

Outserve-SLDN sets ambitious goal in State of LGBT Military Service address

WASHINGTON -- Nearly 1,000 service members, veterans, and supporters gathered in Washington on Saturday night for the OutServe-SLDN 2013 National Dinner, and to hear the first State of LGBT Military Equality Address by Allyson Robinson, a U.S. Army veteran and executive director of Outserve-SLDN.

In her address, Robinson set an ambitions goal of reaching 14,000 actively serving OutServe-SLDN members by the end of 2014.

PFLAG scholarship available for San Diego students

SAN DIEGO -- The local chapter of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) has made applications available for its annual student scholarship program.

The purpose of the program is to recognize outstanding undergraduate and graduate students, encourage them to continue post-secondary education, and promote a positive image of LGBT youth.

Survey seeks to document LGBTQ student success

LANSING, Mich. -- A team of researchers are trying to identify LGBTQ college students who have encountered support for their identities while in school - a change from the body of research that exists describing the negative experiences of LGBTQ students.

The researchers are looking for LGBTQ college students or recent alumni who are willing to share their experiences in an online survey called the National Study of LGBTQ Student Success. Data gathered will help define how colleges and universities can best serve LGBTQ students.

TONIGHT: Local screening and discussion of "Bully"

SAN DIEGO -- Canvass for a Cause (CFAC) and the SAME Alliance will present a free screening of the critically acclaimed film "Bully" today at 6 pm.

The film, which will be shown at Canvass for a Cause's Hillcrest headquarters, will be followed by a panel discussion.

"Bully" is described as a "wrenching, potentially transformative look at an epidemic of adolescent cruelty and adult paralysis in the nation's public schools."
