Recent teen suicides make strong case for Minnesota Safe Schools Bill

WASHINGTON – Over the course of just the past few weeks, four teenagers have committed suicide as a result of bullying and/or harassment in school settings across the country. These tragic deaths are in addition to the five suicides, including three by gay teens, experienced by Minnesota’s Anoka-Hennepin School District in the past year.

WASHINGTON -- To celebrate the contributions of the LGBT community throughout history, Equality Forum annually celebrates LGBT History Month each October by providing resources, information, and an educational campaign that documents the achievements of high-profile LGBT individuals.

This year, the U.S. Department of Education will recognize LGBT History Month, with Secretary of Education Arne Duncan providing welcoming remarks at the Department’s first LGBT History Month event.

VIDEO: Activists to gather in D.C. on Saturday for equality rally

WASHINGTON -- Thousands of people are expected to converge upon the Lincoln Memorial on Saturday for a rally organized by the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force (NGLTF), One Nation Working Together and a partnership of over 200 progressive organizations.

The organizers goal is to simply insist on equality.

"The Tea Party might think they have the momentum going into the midterm elections, but we in the progressive community know we make a difference when we stand together," the NGLTF said in an action alert issued Wednesday.

I am participating in an event on Oct. 21, in New York City to help with suicide prevention among our LGBT youth. Please take a couple minutes to check out the video I made about the organization and share it will your friends and family.

The main reason why started to train and lift so hard at the gym at such a young age was because I wanted to protect those who couldn't protect themselves.

Open Artists are going to blow the house apart with glittering golden goodness on Monday, Sept. 27, beginning at 8 p.m.

The event will be held at the Arena Nightclub, 6655 Santa Monica Blvd., and will feature an eclectic evening of music, dance, comedy and special performances.

Florida’s gay adoption ban loses again in court

A Florida appeals court has ruled the state’s ban on adoption by gays and lesbians is unconstitutional, upholding a lower court ruling that will now likely be appealed to the state’s supreme court.

“We affirm the judgment of adoption, which holds subsection 63.042(3), Florida Statutes, violates the equal protection provision found in article I, section 2, of the Florida Constitution,” the court said.

The case deals with the family of Martin Gill, a gay Florida man who is seeking to adopt two boys placed in his foster care years ago by the state.

Sex advice columnist and gay rights activist Dan Savage has launched a YouTube channel called “It Gets Better.” He’s soliciting videos from fans who want to provide support and encouragement to gay teens who face adversity, discrimination and bullying in high school.
