More arrests of gay men reported in Iran

Recently, the (IRQR), received several new reports of arrests of queer Iranians in the city of Shiraz, Iran.

On Sunday, July 11, 2010, a private party in a suburb called Podonak was raided. The police lead the raid, accompanied by the volunteer moral militia (Basij) and revolutionary guard (Sepah). Reports vary, but we understand that between 17 and 19 people have been arrested and taken to the local intelligent service’s detention centre on Modares Boulevard

Iraqi police crackdown on gays continues; protest by UK, USA needed

Following the June Iraqi police raid on an LGBT-run safe house in the city of Kerbala, Interior Ministry forces have raided a male beauty parlor in Baghdad seizing five gay men.

The new raid happened 25 June on a house used as a business for services such as waxing and massage in the Baghdad district of Karada.

Such services have long been used in a country with a body building tradition.

Gay groups urge Congress to pass Uniting American Families Act

WASHINGTON – A broad coalition of LGBT, immigrants’ rights, civil rights and faith groups called on Congress today to enact the Uniting American Families Act (HR 1024) as part of any future immigration reform effort.

More than 30 organizations signed a statement urging Congress to include the provisions of HR 1024 in any effort that reforms our immigration system.

According to the most recent U.S. Census, nearly 36,000 lesbian and gay Americans are in bi-national couples. Their median age is 38, and 47 percent of bi-national couples are raising children.

When the church invited the NOH8 Campaign to come and shoot in their space earlier this spring, they took time to photograph several members from their congregation for a unique group shot.

Gay U.S. citizens seek to claim residency for foreign spouses

MIAMI BEACH -- Juan Carlos Galán and Greg Nardi of Miami Beach live together as a family and would like to get married.

Then Nardi, a U.S. citizen, would claim Galán as a relative and help the Panama-born computer expert get a green card.

For now, though, these are just dreams - unless President Barack Obama can convince Congress to pass immigration reform.

Fight For Equality necklace and lapel pin sales to help two causes

The recently designed Fight For Equality necklace and lapel pin are now on sale.

A portion of proceeds from each sale will be donated to Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors Fund and the American Foundation for Equal Rights in support of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality.

The sterling-silver, hand-polished Fight For Equality necklace and lapel pin was conceived and designed by jewelry designer Carlos Antonio to be a symbol of strength and empowerment for the equality fight.

Equality For All announces formal dissolution of group

LOS ANGELES -- The executive committee of Equality For All announced Monday that it voted to formally wind up operations and dissolve the corporation.

Pursuant to decisions made by the Equality For All Campaign Committee in 2005, all remaining campaign assets will be provided to and managed by Equality California.
