Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan grilled by Senate panel, talks about marriage equality

Yesterday, the Senate Judiciary Committee wrapped up two grueling days of questioning by members of the Committee. Members of the Committee spoke about LGBT issues ranging from the Employment Non-Discrimination Act to the Defense of Marriage Act, but the nominee limited her discussion to her professional record and judicial philosophy.

Hey, Sen. Orin Hatch, judicial activism cuts both ways

During Elena Kagen’s politically charged Senate confirmation hearing, some Republican senators tried in vain to create criticism of Obama’s Supreme Court nominee because she was U.S. Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall’s law clerk.

In fact, the late Supreme Court justice’s name was invoked 35 times.

Utah Republican Sen. Orin Hatch painted Kagen’s mentor as an “activist” judge. But let's be honest and get rid of the myth that only judges who support civil rights are “activist” judges – because judicial activism cuts both ways.

Mayor Jerry Sanders: Redeveloping Civic Center could save millions

San Diego taxpayers would reap a savings of $24 million over ten years and $232 million over 50 years should the City redevelop the Civic Center instead of continuing to lease expensive offsite office space and making costly band-aid repairs to the existing facility, under an agreement I announced on June 24.

Q Money: Bilderbergers secret society is full of mystery and intrigue

“The Bilderbergers” is not the title of the newest Dan Brown novel. But it IS the name of a highly secretive society of “the world’s best financial minds” – like Henry Kissinger,Baron Rothschild, and the presidents of NATO, the World Bank and the Federal Reserve – that you need to know about.

The aim of the Bilderbergers, when they met at an exclusive resort in Sitges, Spain, is nothing less than saving the planet from financial ruin.

COMMENTARY: Texas Republicans have gone mad

I have a love/hate relationship with Texas.

I lived in the Dallas-Fort Worth area from 1994 to 2005, where I developed a twang from hanging out with too many cowboys and failed miserably at learning the two-step. I still have my cowboy hat and boots to prove it.

COMMENTARY: Mike Huckabee shows his ignorance about gays

Fox commentator Mike Huckabee tells The New Yorker why he is opposed to gay rights.

“I do believe that God created male and female and intended for marriage to be the relationship of the two opposite sexes,” the Baptist minister said. “Male and female are biologically compatible to have a relationship. We can get into the ick factor, but the fact is two men in a relationship, two women in a relationship, biologically, that doesn’t work the same.”

Some people might wonder how Huckabee knows God’s intentions.

It’s time for authentic LGBT leadership

The recent troubles at the Gay & Lesbian Times (GLT) along with the previous troubles at Auntie Helen’s, and, earlier this year, San Diego Pride, have afforded us all the perfect opportunities to ridicule and chastise everyone involved in those mishaps. But now that the dust from those “breaking stories” has settled, have you noticed that the LGBT blame games that ensued made zero difference? So I am taking this opportunity (free from the height of a hot local LGBT community scandal) to invite you to evaluate our community and where we stand.
