High Style: Jeans 4 Justice Conscious Co-op

Feel like exploring some of San Diego’s best boutiques for a great cause? April in San Diego just might be your chance.

Jeans 4 Justice would like to cordially invite you to participate in their month long April campaign, The Jeans 4 Justice Conscious Co-op, put together in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. This is a perfect way for you to get involved with a fabulous cause and explore the fusion of art and fashion in your community.

The Cause: Jeans 4 Justice is a unique non-profit social change organization that uses fashion as a vehicle for empowerment, transformation and healing by creating partnerships with trendsetters, taste-makers, innovators and educators. They advocate against sexual violence by producing edgy awareness campaigns and experiential leadership education programs in high schools, colleges, and the community at large. Jeans 4 Justice takes an engaging, grassroots approach in dealing with a prevalent social issue that directly affects 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men, and indirectly affects us all.

The Fashion: The Jeans 4 Justice Conscious Co-op is about empowering survivors to step forward to have their stories be heard in hopes of preventing future acts of sexual violence. Local designers then transform their stories into one of-a-kind pieces of wearable art to be displayed in generous boutique partners around San Diego County. Stories, photos of the jeans and artist bios will be posted at jeans4justice.org on April 1, where you can vote on your favorite pair of denim. The artist with the most votes will have their work featured on a limited addition line of jeans by Soul Sick Denim in their Fall 2011 Collection.

Come be a part of this innovative fusion of art, fashion and social action by visiting any of the partnering boutiques throughout the month of April. Participating San Diego boutiques include Art N Soul in Encinitas, Virtu in Carlsbad, Material in North Park, The Fresh Yard in San Diego, Ron Stuart in San Diego, Feel Lit in San Diego, Hunt & Gather in San Diego, Mimi & Red in North Park, Ragz in Carlsbad, Azzaria Denim Lounge in Cardiff, Detour Salon & Boutique in Encinitas, Mog and Rue in Encinitas, The Beat in Carlsbad, and Shoes and Blues in Carlsbad. Read survivors’ stories, see beautiful inspired art, and become a vehicle for change. If you are interested in the jeans you see, you can bid on the amazing pieces of art at the participating boutiques. All proceeds from the jeans will go directly to local programs to help educate young people about social change, leadership and sexual violence prevention.
