You Go Girl: Supergirl Pro Junior Surf Contest

From the serene beaches to the laidback locals and water-inspired culture, North County San Diego is an epicenter of SoCal surfing lifestyle. While the Gaslamp breeds businessmen and Pacific Beach inspires entertainment entrepreneurs, North County neighborhoods of Cardiff, Leucadia, and Carlsbad raise locals dedicated to enjoying and protecting the sea, while educating others on the importance of the California coast. Having grown up in Encinitas, I can attest there were few summer days when I was not swimsuit-clad, discovering the beauty of nature at local beaches from sunrise to sunset.

So it’s no surprise that Oceanside was selected as the location for the 4th Annual Supergirl Pro Junior, one of the biggest surf contests in Pro Junior history, featuring sixteen of the best 20-year-old-or-under female surfers in the world, taking place on August 13.

Unique from your average beach day, the Supergirl Pro Junior will feature word-class talent showing off their skills in our local water. The lineup stars three of the top ten female surfers on the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Women’s World Tour, including Coco Ho from Hawaii, currently ranked 6th in the world, as well as 7th ranked Courtney Conlogue from Santa Ana, CA and 10th ranked Laura Enever from Australia. The riders list includes a few other California girls, such as Taylor Pitz from Laguna Beach, Shelby Detmers from Costa Mesa, Catherine Clark from Ventura, and Meah Collins from Costa Mesa. These bad-ass ladies will compete for the coveted Supergirl cape.
