Although the tragedies of September 11th occurred ten years ago, the painful memories of the attack on our nation still remain close in our hearts and minds. As time passes, we continue to remember and honor our fallen heroes.
The Travis Manion Foundation unites the country each year with the 9/11 Heroes Run, where devoted runners participate in the early morning workout to ensure we never forget the sacrifices on and since September 11, 2001. The 9/11 Heroes Run will take place in San Diego this year at the Mission Trails Regional Park at 8am.
The objective of the run is to remember the heroes of this devastating day, from the veteran, to the first responder, and the civilian. The 5K run costs $25 per person, and offers anyone opportunity to run, volunteer, donate, cheer and honor the fallen. The Heroes Run plans to cover 50 communities throughout the country with approximately 25,000 runners and upwards of 100,000 total participants.
The Travis Manion Foundation was created to “honor the fallen by challenging the living.” Before leaving for his final deployment, Travis visited Rescue Team 1 in New York City and returned home passionate about why he was fighting in Iraq, and committed to ensuring no one ever forgets the service of so many men and women who protect us every day. Now every September 11th, communities across the nation are joined in this 5K run to support the men and women serving to protect our country.
Keep on Giving: The registration fee supports the continuing efforts of the Travis Manion Foundation. Additionally approximately 20% of the proceeds from each race will go to a local charity and a smaller percentage will go to the winning team from the participating fire and police departments. The fee will also guarantee a 9/11 Heroes Run T-shirt and, as per tradition, each registered runner will also receive a momento dog tag.
