Get Dirty: Del Mar Mud Run

It's time to get down and dirty, San Diego. As home to some of our favorite things that usually sing to the tune of “where the surf meets the turf”, Del Mar is trading in turf for a whole lot of dirt at the second annual Del Mar Mud Run, October 15th.

This is not your grandmother's breezy run on the track. Although anyone can participate, the Mud Run is quickly becoming infamous for overwhelming obstacles and dirt getting just about everywhere you can imagine. Whether registering into the 5k as an individual or in a group, all are encouraged to get a little unusual. A costume contest will be held 15 minutes prior to the start of each race, and awards will be given to the best, most spectacular outfits presented by San Diego’s one and only VAVi Sport & Social Club.

Teams of four can benefit from a special registration price of $160 per team, and will compete against other teams of four. There’s an additional Unlimited Team option, ideal for large organizations, businesses, charity groups and schools, as long as you're not embarrassed by mud to the face. The Del Mar Mud Run operates under the assumption that anyone willing to run dirty also likes to party dirty, as well. The Mud Fest after-party brings in thousands of Mud Run participants to rage, full of filth, with music this year from Chris Cutz, Fresh One, Beatnick, Mikey Beats and Who.

The Del Mar Mud Run takes the brave and unclean runners through an entire complex of racetracks, stables and arenas. Not meant for the weak or weary, this 5K combines race elements with hurdles and strange costume obstructions. Be prepared to have your running, wading, jumping, climbing and balance skills tested and expect a fair share of jump walls, tunnel crawls, mud pits, cargo net crawls, tire obstacles and much more. Perhaps the best part is that every participant is guaranteed a free beer and t-shirt, and oversized race medals will be awarded to the top finishers.
