Some of you have noticed quite a bit of construction going on at Urban Mo's as of late.
Here's what my sources tell me: The wall between the main bar and the patio is being torn down to improve traffic flow between the two spaces. In addition, the iron railing along the sidewalk is being removed along with part of the remaining wall near the door, and the whole thing will be replaced with movable glass walls.
The effect will be to essentially open up the bar (much like Fiesta Cantina across the street), and allowing in more light, breezes and air flow on good weather days. According to manager Matt Ramon, the heavy construction will take a couple weeks (with a grand unveiling projected just before May 30, Memorial Day).
Although the patio will obviously be off-limits for a while, both bar and restaurant WILL remain open for the duration of the remodel. This is a relief to all the Hillcrest Hot Messes!
By the way, the Mo's patio webcam remains ON. So, if you want to check on the remodel (and/or the construction workers) in real time, just click HERE!
Swimsuit Party set at Fiesta Cantina
Speaking of Fiesta Cantina, the staff is having a Swimsuit Party starting at 8 tonight. Here's the perfect chance to preview that summer body you've been working on since New Year's! All those in swimwear (square cuts, board shorts, Speedos, etc.) get happy hour drink specials all night long. And you could walk away with $100, after winning the "Hot Body" contest there that night.
Jungle Party is on tap at Rich's
And from swimsuits to loincloths ... this Saturday is the thirrd annual Jungle Party at Rich's:
"This is going to be an event to remember with amazing decorations, special performances, hot jungle go go boys, and amazing dance music with a tribal flair.
DJ Nikno is putting together a special set of dark and heavy beats for this night.
As with all of the PIX special events, this will be a night to remember with jungle themed performances and other surprises.
Jungle themed costumes are encouraged though not required.
We recommend early arrival since this will be a capacity night. Get there before 11pm so you don't have to wait in line while everyone else is partying inside.
You get 1/2 off cover before 11 pm with your SDPIX VIP Membership or by texting SDPIX to 313131 and showing our welcome message to the cashier upon arrival."
Easter Sunday brunches and basket drives
This Sunday is Easter, and a few of the local Sunday funday hot spots are serving up some Easter brunch specials:
For example, Baja Betty's is having an Easter Buffet Brunch for $18.95, which features spiral ham with scalloped potatoes, a waffle bar with fresh strawberry preserves, omelets made to order ... not to mention $3 bloody marys, and unlimited sangria, champagne or mimosas.
Eden, not to be outdone, is having a Easter Pump and Thump Brunch ... a $20 gourmet brunch with $10 bottomless mimosas, craft cocktails, shot specials, live DJs and "big carrots."
And also in support of Easter Sunday, the San Diego American Flag Football League (SDAFFL) is having its first-ever Easter Basket Drive on Saturday for underprivileged children. League members (and others) are encouraged to bring baskets to the game fields, and the team with the most baskets donated will win $200 worth of food and drink at their sponsor's venue, have their photo published, and have $200 donated in their team's name. Baskets will be donated to the annual Easter Egg Hunt at Trolley Barn Park on Sunday.
