Urban Mo's, Hillcrest's popular restaurant/bar and flagship of the Chris Shaw family of entertainment venues (which also includes Baja Betty's, Gossip Grill and the soon-to-open Hillcrest Brewery) will be celebrating its 20th anniversary tonight (Thursday)!
Yes, 20 years ... it's been that long! Originally opened as a Hamburger Mary's in 1992 by Shaw and Doug Snyder, the restaurant severed its franchise ties in 2006 and renamed itself Urban Mo’s. Serving more than 7 million guests since its original opening, it has been a perennial community leader through its charitable giving programs and sponsorships.
The public festivities begin at 9 pm, and requested attire for the party is "Anything OUTRAGEOUS." I understand there'll be tons of giveaways all night, plus go-go boys (a relative rarity for Mo's). It's going to be crazy, all the usual Hillcrest Hot Messes will of course be there in force ... see you there!
Pride Kickoff Party at Rich's this Friday
I've noted the phenomenon here before, about how it seems that San Diego Pride season keeps starting sooner and sooner, what with "pre-Pride" parties, like the Christmas season, encroaching sooner and sooner on the calendar. Tomorrow, I believe, we will have officially set a new record!
This Friday Rich's is having a "90 Days Till Pride Kickoff Party," a special edition of their Dirty Pop night with DJ Luis Perez in the main room and DJ Will Z in the front. Reps from San Diego Pride will be there, with free Pride giveaways and Pride drink specials throughout the night.
In fact, you can sign up on Pride's exclusive guest list to get in free before midnight here.
Hmmm, only 90 days to go ... I guess this is our wake-up call to lay off the snacks and step up the workout routine ...
Luau at Bourbon Street
This Saturday Bourbon Street will be having a "Luau!" This Hawaiian themed event will be starting at 10 pm, right after the 8:30 pm Dreamgirls show. A hosted bar (which means free, yay!) will be available at 10 pm for all those RSVP on their Facebook event page, and proceeds will benefit The San Diego LGBT Community Center.
The night also features music by DJ Shane Stiel, and a special birthday celebration for Bourbon Street manager Chuck Ferrante!
Shawn Pelofsky's "The Bathhouse Show" at Bourbon Street
Stretch it out! Atlantis Cruises sweetheart and The Queen of Queens Shawn Pelofsky returns to Bourbon Street this Monday, with another installment of her monthly comedy night, "The Bathhouse Show."
In addition to Pelofsky, get ready to laugh it up with guest comics Matthew Moore (Logo), Patrick DeGuire (Comedy Central) and Sandra Valls (Showtime).
Seating is at 7:30 pm and show time is at 8 pm. The show is free and dinner reservations can be made; see here for more info.
