SAN DIEGO -- The new owners of the entertainment complex located at 1202 University Ave., which most recently housed Eden, have turned to the community to help them name the nightclub portion of the space.
The venue will be connected to The Range Kitchen & Cocktails, which is currently in the process of moving from its former location across the street.
An online survey has been posted and community members are encouraged to select from one of the 11 suggested names, or submit their own.
The names listed -- 1202, Agenda, Fizz, Forbidden, Honey, iDentity, Nectar, The Closet, There, Verboden, Whiskey Dick's -- are the initial concepts conceived by the new owners, DVR Intellectual Properties. While they spent much time coming up with the handful of suggested names, if members of the community have a better idea, they are open to it.
If an alternative suggestion is submitted and the owners ultimately choose to use it as the club's new name, the winner will receive a gift bag from Hale Media -- publisher of SDGLN and San Diego Pix -- valued at over $1,000.
In the event that multiple individuals suggest the same winning name, the gift bag will be distributed evenly among the winners. Also, all who vote for the final name -- those who suggest it or those who vote on a name already listed -- will receive VIP bottle service treatment with the winning group at the nightclub space's grand opening celebration -- scheduled for later this year.
Everyone who submits a vote for any of the names will receive free admission to the grand opening celebration as well.
This weekend, a "Construction Party" will be held at the space, which will include events on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. There will be no cover all weekend long, and guests will have the opportunity to check out The Range's new space.
Friday night will include The Range's opening party and floor plan reveal with music by DJ Murphi. Saturday will be the "Construction Party" with "construction go-go dancers" and "demolition servers" with music by DJ Marcel. There will be no cover on both nights with $5 "You Call Its" and $7 premium pours. Doors open at 9 pm.
On Sunday, The Range will open up for its first Sunday brunch in the new space, with specialty construction cocktails.
