GLAAD announces nominees, honorees for GLAAD Media Awards in Advertising

NEW YORK -- The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) announces the nominees and honorees for the second annual GLAAD Media Awards in Advertising.

Bryan Batt of "Mad Men" will host the event on Wednesday, Sept. 29, in New York City and Bethenny Frankel known for her roles on the hit reality series "Real Housewives of New York City" and "Bethenny Getting Married?" will present.

"The Road to Mecca" debuts tonight; several theater-enhancing events planned

SAN DIEGO -- Freedom is not a simple thing. For more than five decades, South African playwright Athol Fugard has written passionate plays that touch on key moments in the history of his homeland, while also telling stories about the kind of struggles all humans face.

"The Road to Mecca" previews tonight Sept. 25 and runs through Oct. 17 in the Lyceum Space at the San Diego REPertory Theatre.

THEATER REVIEW: “Limelight: The Story of Charlie Chaplin” is a work in progress

SAN DIEGO -- Visionary filmmaker Charlie Chaplin made enormous contributions to American filmmaking, but he is best remembered for his signature character – the tramp with baggy pants, a distinctive waddle and a battered bowler perched high on his head.

Chaplin is memorialized in the world premiere musical “Limelight: The Story of Charlie Chaplin,” playing through Oct. 17 at La Jolla Playhouse. Choreographer Warren Carlyle took over directorial duties after the departure of original director Michael Unger.
