Spooning With MJ.: How to create the perfect Pride Breakfast

Oh Pride weekend, how I anticipate your arrival like a child on Christmas.

Sitting by the window, waiting for the Rainbow flags and pink flamingos to go up, I always think: Man, this Pride is going to take me at least a month to recover from. Back in my 20s, which was not that long ago, Pride would be a two-to-three day recovery at most.

What I’ve found over the years is that a good healthy meal goes a long way. Make sure to hydrate with liquids such as water, Gatorade, Vitamin Water; and, no, using these as chasers do not count!

Out & About: Jim Winsor's guide to Pride parties and club events

San Diego Pride weekend officially begins tomorrow night, so here’s a rundown of all the major Pride parties and club events.

Since nearly all of the big events have some sort of presence on Facebook, the easiest, fairest and most practical way to do this would be to simply provide each event's Facebook event page link. Not only does this approach have the advantages of brevity and compactness, but it also allows the various parties and events to speak for themselves.

Out & About: Getting ready for the pool party season

Pool party season is upon us, and there's no better sign of this than the first Guys Like Us (GLU) Pool party of 2010, coming up July 10.

A fundraiser for AIDS Walk, this year GLU hopes to raise $15,000.

These GLU parties have traditionally been some of the best and eagerly anticipated pool parties on the local pool party calendar. You can view photos from some of their most recent events here.

Sound observations by Oleta Adams

Song interpretation is by no means an exact science. That’s why so many singers can sing the same song in different ways.

For Oleta Adams, who is famous for her 1991 hit “Get Here,” performing a song is much an act of psychology as art.

“When I first consider a song, I look at the lyric and think of what the writer had in mine,” she said while sitting in her home in Kansas City, Missouri. “Sometimes, it’s right there in front of you and other times, you need to look for it.”
