A new era dawns for Flicks in Hillcrest

SAN DIEGO – For nearly 30 years, Flicks has been a popular video bar and drinking establishment in the heart of Hillcrest, but most importantly it’s been a meeting place. And that is exactly what new owner Jeff Jackson wants it to remain -- a place where friends meet, connect and celebrate.

Jackson and his partner Paul, who moved to San Diego about 11 years ago, met their first friends in town at Flicks.

Jim Winsor’s Out & About: Local DJ’s tiny fashion statement goes viral

Last weekend provided a fun and interesting example of how the power of Social Media, combined with looking really cute in a jock strap, can result in an unexpected boost overnight in a local DJ’s online profile.

Before his gig at last Saturday’s Popsicle party at Rich’s, DJ John Joseph posted via Twitter that he had "Just put my costume together for tonight @richssandiego" and added "Oh yeah ... It's pretty small."

Jim Winsor’s Out & About: A fond farewell to "Robsicle"

Rob Thompson, the popular and diversely-talented organic chemist/SDPIX and Rich’s cover model/go-go boy, will be having his big going away night this Saturday at Rich’s. Rob, aka Robsicle, aka Mr. Universal, is leaving us for a new life in Chicago. Naturally, we are sad … but we wish him all the best!

The theme for the night at Rich’s will be Popsicle, appropriately enough, with DJ Taj at the turntables.
