When Christine Kehoe joined the San Diego City Council back in 1993, she was the city's first openly LGBT elected official. She went on to serve in the California State Assembly and then brought her authentic voice to the California State Senate.

Working with the LGBT state legislative caucus, Christine helped pass landmark legislation requiring schools to include the historical accomplishments of openly LGBT individuals in civics courses, as well as significant legislation aimed at strengthening benefits and non-discrimination protections for LGBT Californians.

With Christine retiring at the end of this term, join Victory in saluting her years of service and tireless efforts to advance equality at our San Diego Women's Pride Brunch on July 21.

We'll also be looking ahead to future victories with Maryland State Delegate Heather Mizeur. Along with her fellow lesbian and gay state lawmakers, Heather helped lead the successful charge for marriage equality in Maryland.
