Two San Diegans are Gay Travel Guru hopefuls

SAN DIEGO -- In April of 2010, following the launch of its new website, gaytravel.com announced the search for its first Gay Travel Guru -- a travel enthusiast to city-hop, mingle, and report on the hottest gay destinations in North America.

This Tuesday, after months of talent testing, gaytravel.com will announce their choice for the inaugural Gay Travel Guru of North America.

New Queer Happy Hour: Sundays at El Camino

Ever since Universal Hillcrest unpredictably locked its doors on January 1, 2010, the San Diego lesbian and queer community has been reeling to fill a void. When the nightclub went under, it took with it Thirsty Thursdays -- the weekly happy hour produced and created by FlawLes Lesbian Lifestyle and Entertainment Media. The lively but laid-back fete around the fire pits on University Avenue in Hillcrest was unanimously lauded for its eclectic and inclusive rendering of the city’s LGBT community.

It’s shark week. And for LGBTs, reality bites.

It’s that time of year again. The 23rd annual Shark Week is upon us and the thrills are as biting as ever. It’s no wonder we go wild about this time-honored television event. After months of withstanding real housewife charades, TV viewers are finally treated to a primal predator panic-fest.

Movie Review: Is 'Inception' a dream come true?

There’s a lot of film-geek butter gushing over director Christopher Nolan’s fresh-popped summer movie, Inception. I went to a matinee this week, not because I’m a big fan of Nolan’s previous works (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Memento) and not because I’m even remotely interested in heist, sci-fi, espionage thrillers (I’ve never even seen The Matrix). To be clear, I was unilaterally in attendance to see my foxy silver screen sweetheart, Ellen Page, in action.

My Gay Wingman, the Bromance, and Our Eternal Chastity

A few weeks ago, I penned a rather presumptuous column about gay best friends and the inevitable attempts at benefits therein.

Best friend with benefits? Try, try again.

What do you call two homos who have been best friends for years but have never, ever hooked up?

“Liars!” Good answer, good answer.

Why is it that every homo in Whoville and their red blooded homo best pal have made out with each other at least once? (On purpose or by accident.) How many of us have grabbed the arm of our besty when it’s time for introductions and proclaimed, “This is my best friend—well, we dated for a sec [LESBIANS READ: two years] but we’ve been best friends forever!”?

Home Wrecking or Social Darwinism?

A common question in the mailbag is how to handle the burning desire for someone who already has a special someone. While I respect the commitment between two individuals, I also see them for exactly what they are -- two individuals. It is for that reason that I heartily endorse the expression of one’s interest in a beauty who happens to have a beau. Some people would say that makes me an inconsiderate jerk, I say that makes me a cog in the relationship food chain; a champion of the natural process.
