Best friend with benefits? Try, try again.

What do you call two homos who have been best friends for years but have never, ever hooked up?

“Liars!” Good answer, good answer.

Why is it that every homo in Whoville and their red blooded homo best pal have made out with each other at least once? (On purpose or by accident.) How many of us have grabbed the arm of our besty when it’s time for introductions and proclaimed, “This is my best friend—well, we dated for a sec [LESBIANS READ: two years] but we’ve been best friends forever!”?

Home Wrecking or Social Darwinism?

A common question in the mailbag is how to handle the burning desire for someone who already has a special someone. While I respect the commitment between two individuals, I also see them for exactly what they are -- two individuals. It is for that reason that I heartily endorse the expression of one’s interest in a beauty who happens to have a beau. Some people would say that makes me an inconsiderate jerk, I say that makes me a cog in the relationship food chain; a champion of the natural process.

The Catholic Church: A Family's Divide

Editor’s Note: Mary Buckheit is the youngest of six children raised by staunch Catholic parents. Her siblings attended parochial school and she graduated from Siena College, an independent Catholic liberal arts college in New York founded in the Franciscan tradition. Mary continues to practice the faith today, though not without deliberation.

Drugs On The Scene

I remember my very first night in a gay club. It was back in New York when I was a freshman in college. I got in with a New Hampshire drivers license -- a hand-me-down from my roommate’s big sister. Her eyes were green. It worked anyway. I remember parking in the church lot across the street and crawling out from the backseat of a two-door Honda. Some six of us girls crossed Lark Street within the epic silence that glows under street lamps after midnight.

Why did Rosie stand up the party?

Back in January, stand-up comedian & celesbian personality, Rosie O’Donnell announced that she would make her anticipated return to stand-up comedy on Friday, April 2, at the Palm Springs Convention Center as a part of The Dinah (Club Skirts presentation of Dinah Shore weekend 2010).

A few weeks later, O'Donnell canceled her appearance. According to the official press release from the Club Skirts promotions team, the show was canceled because of O'Donnell's desire to "remain in Miami with her children over Spring break."

The Dinah Mastermind: Mariah Hanson

When Mariah Hanson first stole off to Palm Springs for Dinah Shore Weekend ‘88, she had no idea that the dash to the desert with friends would one day become her life work. The San Francisco party promoter produced her first Dinah Shore event in 1991. This spring marks the 20th anniversary of the annual wild week Hanson has been stirring up in Cochella Valley. This is how she got there, in her own words.

First job: “At age 12 I was delivering newspapers in San Mateo. Nothing teaches you customer service like a paper route, I’m telling you.”

Club Skirts vs. Girl Bar

If you're not immersed in the world of party promoters and event producers, it might all look the same. Palm Springs, the pools, the white parties, the big-name DJs spinning beats -- it's all 'Dinah Shore' to you. And in reality, that's how it should be. After all, the biggest lesbian party on the planet hinges on meeting in the desert for some sunshine and celebration.

But if you've been around the scene long enough, you know that the world of lesbian event production is not exactly all rainbows, flowers and puppies. It's big business; and that gets competitive.
