COMMENTARY: AIDS still thought of as a gay disease in black America

To date, more than 230, 000 African Americans have died of AIDS.

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), one in 22 African Americans will be diagnosed HIV-positive in their lifetime. And, it’s the leading cause of death among African American women between the ages of 25-34 and African American men between the ages of 35-44.

The inception of World AIDS Day began, many would say, when the world was in need of prayer. But that was all we had at the time.

Q Nutrition: What you should know about the protein lactoferrin

Our intricate human system is more complex, and more self-serving of our well being than any of us really know or can comprehend; we are loaded with defense bacteria and cells that fight for our survival minute by minute, day by day.

We all inherently possess one very important nutrient known as lactoferrin – a protein - that does such a job.

You might call it a sentry since it’s always on guard at every orifice of the body to protect us from dangerous outside organisms, most importantly virus bacteria, with its antibacterial properties.

"Ab-ulous" episode of "Glee" offers a great take on male body issues

Any straight lady or gay man in "Glee‘s" audience (i.e. the vast majority of Glee‘s audience) had to enjoy last night’s Rocky Horror Picture Show-themed episode, and not because they love “The Time Warp.” We were treated to not one, not even two, but three extensive shirtless-hunk scenes. And yes, I’m including Cory Monteith in that count, despite poor Finn’s insecurities about showing off his body. Finn, you looked darn good to me strutting down the hall in your underwear!

National lesbian and gay men sex studies need participants

The Center for Sexual Health Promotion at Indiana University is one of the nation’s leading research groups that focuses on how sexually active adults make decisions that influence their sexual health.

Researchers at the Center have just released a nationally representative study on the sex lives of Americans and they now want to focus specifically on lesbians and gay men.

Q Nutrition: Arthritis is not always to blame for aches and pains

Aches and pains in joints and bone are common maladies as we get older. It’s generally referred to as the old age syndrome, and we readily accept the thought or diagnosis of this as being arthritis, the usual scapegoat.

We are ready to accept it, take the over-the-counter medication, or often make a doctor’s appointment citing arthritis, accept the anti-inflammatory drug prescription and go on our way. But is it really just a disease called arthritis that creeps into our bodies?
