NEW YORK -- In comments submitted today to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), HIV and health advocates say they are pleased that the CDC is updating guidelines for organ donation to include more current scientific information about HIV, but urge the agency to do more to maximize the supply of organs available for transplantation from medically qualified donors throughout our society, including LGBT people.

Lambda Legal, the Gay & Lesbian Medical Association (GLMA), AIDS United and amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research submitted comments to the CDC.

Get a LIFE: Holiday indulgences may set your body on fire

With the holiday season ahead, more time off, and an abundance of holiday meals on the calendar, many of us tend to go overboard, and as a result, throw the body off balance.

You have probably heard about the word 'inflammation' before, but what does it really boil down to?

In our lives when we get injured, like a sprained ankle or broken arm, the body moves into a natural and healthy inflammation response that begins the healing process of the affected area.

Study: Tying the knot boosts gay men's health

Straight men are already known to thrive after getting hitched, but the marriage effect might be just as strong for gay men’s health.

In fact, just the possibility of legalized marriage might make gay guys healthier, according to a new study published in the American Journal of Public Health.

Get a LIFE: Everything you ever need to know about bad breath!

It’s true that oral intensity refers to one of the clubs the New Directions competed with last season in "Glee," but in the world of day-to-day human interaction and body health, bad breath is serious business.

As a yoga teacher and nutrition and health counselor, I interact with many people throughout the week. With each person I attempt to be as present as I can, to listen, emphasize and connect.

Consistently, the factor that knocks me out of the present moment time and time again is putrid smelling breath.

Get a LIFE: Are you breaking sinful bread?

One of the rotating diet trends in American culture is the attack on carbohydrates and the resulting ‘carbofobia’ that ensues.

Yet, not all carbohydrate foods are equal.

Simple carbs from refined white flour (muffins, white fluffy bread, danish) are very different than whole grains or complex carbs (brown rice, whole wheat flour, quinoa) that integrate into the blood stream more slowly and don’t create havoc in our blood sugar.

In this line of thinking, whole grain bread is not as big of a culprit as white bread.

You’re at the gym and you are finishing your last rep of legs at an enviable weight ... you are making eyes with the hottie across the gym. Then you stand and your achy knees and sore low back cause you to move as if you were 30 years older -- not very vivacious and sexy.

Or, even worse: The pain of your shoulder, knee, hip or ankle causes you to minimize or even STOP your workouts altogether. Dang those injuries preventing us from looking better naked!

So what is a self-respecting naked-hopeful to do in a situation like this?

Dentists in LA County practice high rate of discrimination towards HIV/AIDS patients, study shows

LOS ANGELES –– A new study released today by the Williams Institute found that five percent of dental offices in Los Angeles County have a blanket policy of refusing dental services to People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA).

The study also found that an additional 5% of dental providers would treat PLWHA differently than other patients in ways that could potentially violate anti-discrimination laws. Examples of such different treatment include only providing the most basic of services to PLWHA, such as a cleaning, or only treating them on certain days of the week or in an isolated room.

Get a LIFE: Morning rituals for healthy living

More and more the medical and science communities are recognizing that lifestyle and food choices are extremely important in vital health and enhanced immunity.

At the start of every day, we have a ripe opportunity to set the tone of those next hours to help us thrive.

Instead, many wake up with worries, a frantic rush, coffee on an empty stomach, a sugary breakfast of white flour baked goods, chemicalized drinks, or junky energy bars, igniting the vicious cycle of unnecessary stress.
