(SAN DIEGO) – A star-studded lineup of celebrities, researchers, and members of the Southern California business community will gather for a fundraising event for Kawasaki Disease Research on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009 at La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, Calif. Attendees, including parents of children with Kawasaki Disease (KD), will celebrate advances in the diagnosis and treatment of KD and honor and recognize those who have made a difference in children’s health.
This charitable gathering will feature honorees and KD parents such as the Backstreet Boys’ Brian Littrell and his wife Leighanne, and Don Dawn, President and Chairman of the Gorden and Marilyn Macklyn Foundation. Anita Pointer of The Pointer Sisters will provide live entertainment while Justin Guarini, from American Idol Season One and TV Guide’s Celebrity Red Carpet Host, will be Master of Ceremonies for this incredible night.
A key highlight of the evening will feature a special presentation by KD Foundation President Greg Chin to KD discoverer Dr. Tomisaku Kawasaki and Rady Children’s Hospital and UCSD’s Dr. Jane C. Burns.
This cocktail-attire, red carpet event begins at 5:30 p.m. with delicious food, cocktails, and both live and silent auctions. Throughout the presentations, recognition, and entertainment, guests can bid on luxury vacation packages to places like New York, Miami, London, and Paris; sports memorabilia including a Muhammad Ali autographed robe and boxing glove as well as a Pittsburgh Steelers full-size autographed Super Bowl Champion team helmet; dining at some of San Diego’s finest restaurants; and many more one-of-a-kind items like guitars autographed by Sir Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, Jonas Brothers, and Miley Cyrus.
Proceeds from the event will directly benefit Kawasaki Disease Research with hopes to fund an endowed Chair at the University of California, San Diego for KD programs committed to discovering the cause of this child illness.
