SAN DIEGO -- The 27th annual Autumn Classic is coming to San Diego Oct. 8-10 and hundreds of athletes from all over the United States and Canada are coming to America's Finest City, and your help is needed to show them a great time.
The 2010 Autumn Classic, sponsored by the America's Finest City Softball League (AFCSL), is on pace to beat last year's attendance, so more volunteers are needed.
Volunteer opportunities are available all three days, with various jobs involved, but best of all, you don't need to know a THING about softball.
Whether you can help out Friday night at the registration party, or Saturday and Sunday with game and field operations, no amount of time is too little, and every effort will be really appreciated by the AFCSL and the hundreds of player athletes descending upon San Diego for one of the most popular tournaments on the West Coast.
Remember, you don't need to know anything about softball. Just be willing to help!
Registration Party: Friday, Oct. 8 at Urban Mo's
Hundreds of player athletes will need to be directed to sign up for the tournament. Volunteers are needed to help with that process.
Players will need to be welcomed, shown which tables to register at, and ushered along the way. Players, coaches, and umpires will all have questions, from where to eat, drink and be merry, to where there fields are. You'll be armed with all the answers you need, and will have plenty of help figuring out the ones that weren't anticipated.
Registration shifts are as follows:
Friday, Oct. 8 (3-4 pm)
Friday, Oct. 8 (4-5 pm)
Friday, Oct. 8 (5-6 pm)
Friday, Oct. 8 (6-7 pm)
Friday, Oct. 8 (7-8 pm)
Friday, Oct. 8 (8-9 pm)
Friday, Oct. 8 (9-10:30 pm)
Field Operations: Saturday, Oct. 9, and Sunday, Oct. 10
Teams from all over the U.S. and Canada will be driving around unfamiliar territory.
Once they arrive at the sports complexes, they will need to know what fields they play on, when their games are, and where they go next. They need volunteers who can expedite those requests, help the umpires collect score cards and to keep the tournament brackets up to date.
All of this help is crucial for a successful tournament and a great player experience. But again, you don't need to know anything about softball to help! We'll teach you everything you need to know!
We will be utilizing three sports facilities, so multiple people will be needed for each shift.
