Overcome weight loss obstacles by changing your approach

An Indian holy man named Ramana Maharshi once said that the mind is like a thief who steals things from a house, then goes outside and becomes a cop … to find the thief that is himself.

I’ve thought quite a bit about this statement and in the area of weight loss, I feel it directly applies. We search over and over for solutions, in the same distinct ways, all the while not realizing that the approach we’re taking is what actually creates the obstacles we’re trying to overcome.

Let’s start by looking at the thief …

If you want change, stop playing the same game

Everyone wants to be healthy, but if you want to lose weight - stop playing the game. Before you jump into a "get thin quick" routine, you need to consider some important facts.

Fact #1: The weight loss industry’s annual revenue for 2008 was roughly $60 billion dollars. The major players in this game include weight loss centers like Jenny Craig, cosmetic surgeons who perform liposuction, over-the-counter diet supplements and prescription diet pills, diet programs such as Nutrisystem, and the diet food and beverage industry.

The average client we see coming into our facility is very different than the average client we saw only 10 years ago. Back then, for the most part, I would assess my client, find little to no major physical issues and jump them right into what they came in for: To get fit and look better.

Today the average age of a new client is the same age as we saw 10 years ago, but the age of their bodies seems 10 years older than it should be – specifically muscle tightness and the way their body moves.

Q Nutrition: The benefits of fruit juice

Everyone knows how beneficial it is to drink fruit juice every day, right? Wrong. We have been misguided once again.

Forever I drank orange juice for breakfast and then some; I was an orange juice fanatic, honestly believing that it added nutrition to my diet, if nothing else. It was my coffee in the morning. But along came the true reality of it all.

Fruit juices are hazardous to your health…and this is not a joke. I stopped drinking, with not too much withdrawal.

Art of Fitness: The importance of working on the back

When you look at a professional athlete, whether a bodybuilder or not, one of the first body parts that grabs your attention is his or her back.

Good back development, as with leg development, tells a great deal about a person.

First of all, training the back is hard work! It takes a good amount of mental attitude, strength and focus to train the back properly.
