Post-apartheid, the SA women's soccer team is still fighting for their rights and their lives

JOHANNESBURG -- Down the road from a Constitutional Court that is charged with upholding gay rights, South Africa's only lesbian soccer team fight not just for the ball but to overturn brutal prejudice and discrimination.

The "Chosen Few" play with skill and huge enthusiasm despite the scrappy dirt wasteground bordered by a large puddle on which they are obliged to train, a few hundred metres from the imposing Constitutional Court in central Johannesburg.

COMPETE Magazine, published by Compete Sports Media, has just inked a deal with Source Interlink International, Inc to distribute its publication nationwide, through outlets such as Barnes & Noble, Borders books and other regional bookstores throughout the United States.

San Diego's gay grapplers to host wrestling tournament

SAN DIEGO -- On Saturday, February 19, the San Diego Wrestling Club (SDWC) will be holding its 5th annual Bulldogs Wrestling Tournament in the San Diego Gay & Lesbian Center's main auditorium, starting at 1 p.m.

"The Center" is located at 3909 Centre Street in Hillcrest.

The club says spectators are welcome and suggests a $5 donation at the door, which the club will use to help defray tournament expenses.

Dirty Cleats: The transition from football to baseball begins

Super Bowl XLV was a perfect grand finale to an awesome season.

I enjoyed 70 degree San Diego weather with great friends, a few drinks, and one heck of a half-time show. In addition, I won some money off the Packers, so it ended up being a pretty good day.

Dirty Cleats finished the regular football season with 148 correct picks and 108 incorrect picks. The post-season went just as well with seven correct and four incorrect.

This includes an undefeated Championship weekend, and picking the Packers to win it all.

San Diego Roller Derby skates back to life for the 2011 season this weekend in Linda Vista

SAN DIEGO -- This Saturday, February 4th beginning at 5:15 p.m. the San Diego Roller Derby (SDRD) will launch their 2011 season from their home track at Skateworld in Linda Vista.

The Starlettes will not only be hosting the Tuscon Roller Derby in their first bout of the 2011 season, they will also be welcoming back a prior San Diego skater who is now wearing the Tuscon jersey. Former SDRD teammate Court House Chaos will be back as Anastasia Beeverhausen and skating alongside her new team.
