DIRTY CLEATS: Predictions for NFL's Week Fourteen

As the Chargers continue to dominate statistically, they are still far from postseason. Not making the playoffs this year would be an absolute waste because they are on the verge of making history in the ranks. As for this year’s MVP, Tom Brady stepped above the rest on Monday night. If he continues like that, he’s a shoe-in.

Runner goes from closet to activist for gay athletes

YPSILANTI, Mi -- Few things in life have the ups and downs one experiences as a collegiate athlete. Whether it is winning the conference championship one minute or getting a season-ending injury the next, the physical, emotional and mental highs and lows are unparalleled.

Being a gay youth also has its share of extremes. As a gay athlete -- now out -- I have experienced extremes from both worlds. In a short time I have gone from a scared, closeted runner dealing with my sexuality to now being an advocate for fellow gay and lesbian athletes.

Openly gay olympic medalist Matthew Mitcham dives right into GQ Australia interview

SYDNEY -- Olympic champions are the closest things we have to superheroes. They perform feats mere mortals simply cannot, employing a razor-sharp focus to tune out the sacrifices  they’ve been forced to make, before standing alone on their pedestal to be idolised. After all, with great power comes great responsibility.

Dirty Cleats: Predictions for NFL's Week 13

With five games left, there are only seven teams officially out of the playoff hunt. That is the fewest it has been, this late in the season, in several years. As the cold sets in on the East Coast, a great Monday night match-up will be played as the New York Jets head to Foxboro to take on the New England Patriots. This will determine who stands alone with the best record in the AFC. As for the NFC, all the Falcons have to do is keep winning since they already posses the best record.

Gay Ski Weeks are finally here!

Every year I anticipate the Ski Expo in Boston. To me, that officially marks the start of "ski season."

As a lesbian, and a lesbian travel agent at that, I have a particular interest in the multitude of gay & lesbian ski weeks that are planned each year.

There always seems to be at least one new ski week added each year, as is the case with the First Annual Matthew Shephard Gay Ski Week at Crested Butte, planned for March 19-26, 2011.

Dirty Cleats: It's Thanksgiving Thursday - predictions for Week Twelve

Thanksgiving Thursday is finally here! Outside of post-season, this is possibly the best NFL weekend around. Every year, the Cowboys and Lions play host to one of 30 NFL teams that are picked in rotation.

In addition, there is a third game added that is selected in rotation also. Ever wonder why the Cowboys and Lions play every Thanksgiving? Me too, and here is the answer:

This tradition dates back to 1934 for the Lions and 1966 for the Cowboys. Both teams secured this spot in the NFL schedule by simply volunteering.

Bay Area hockey team puts alternative spin on the puck

OAKLAND -- The San Francisco Goaldiggers, a recreational league hockey team that plays at Oakland Ice Center, is out to win games, as well as change minds.

Originally founded by goalie Don Otvos as a gay team during the summer of 2007, when he moved to San Francisco, the organization has maintained an identity of being predominately composed of gay team members. Nonetheless, Otvos says his hope was always to simply show that the sport of hockey is for everyone, regardless of race, gender or sexual orientation.

Gay race day stirs up hornet’s nest in Australia

ADELAIDE, Australia – An Australian Jockey Club has faced a backlash over its decision to run a gay and lesbian race day.

The South Australian club is catering for a crowd of 5,000 at Adelaide's Morphettville this Saturday, for its inaugural Pink Diamond Day.
