36th Annual Nicky Awards Aug. 28

Nominations can be submitted until July 15

One of the West Coast’s oldest LGBT community awards - the Nicky Awards’ 36th Annual presentation - will be held on August 28th at the San Diego LGBT Center.
Long considered “The gay Academy Awards of San Diego," the community based awards honor and recognizes outstanding achievement within the LGBT community. The award presentation gala will benefit the Lambda Archives, the Imperial Court de San Diego, and The Center.

Nominations for the 2011 Nicky Awards are now being sought for the more than 40 categories. Anyone can nominate at www.nickyawards.com. The 2011 Co-Chairs of the Nicky Board of Governors are Lisa Sanders and Allan Spyere who have promised a fast paced exciting evening with great entertainment.

Founded in 1975 by City Commissioner Nicole Murray Ramirez, the Nicky Award have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for countless charities and LGBT organizations. The Nicky Awards have attracted a huge attendance including prominent public officials from members of Congress, Mayors to Police Chiefs and Senators. Then Governor Gray Davis praised the awards for highlighting our community's accomplishments: “By showcasing excellence in the LGBT community, the Nicky Awards serve as proof that every person has something important to contribute.”

Among the entertainers already booked are Circuit diva Flava and Lady Gaga impersonator Grace Towers.
Tickets and tables are now being sold: $75 VIP and $50 General Admission. Early purchase is strongly recommended as the Nicky Awards are always sold out.

The 2011 Nicky Awards timeline is:

Nominations – now until July 15th
Nomination Party – July 25th at Martinis 7pm
Voting online- August 1st- August
Voting parties- August 12th to 14th
Voting at the center- August 13th 10am-2pm
All voting ends August 14th at midnight.
Nicky Awards- August 28th at The Center 6pm
