REVIEW: Girl/Girl Scene Web Series

Web series, the sudden evolution of entertainment. Once the ugly stepchild of the audiovisual genre, it has become something of a Paris Hilton—or if successful in achieving artistic greatness—an Andy Warhol of our times. Much like Warhol’s warehouse parties, webisodes are often hectic creations designed by the friends you can bring to the party, driven by a host who is creator, writer, director and often player within the piece itself.

And they tend to disappoint.

One-on-One with Tucky Williams of Girl/Girl Scene

Tucky Williams plays the smoldering bad girl Evan on web series ‘Girl/Girl Scene’, and I didn’t know what to expect from the Kentucky-based actress-writer who has helmed one of the most successful lesbian online shows. Yet, when I got her on the phone, the genuine nature of a Midwesterner came through and I found her to be a down-to-earth individual who is heartily dedicated to her work at Girl/Girl Scene.

Samantha Gellar: You’re an actress, screenwriter, meteorologist, yoga instructor, epilepsy advocate…Does being a modern Renaissance woman ever take its toll?

PREVIEW: 'For a Good Time, Call' in Theaters Aug. 31

I wasn’t excited about the screening of For A Good Time, Call. The movie had a premise that made me cringe: Two women with a contentious past end up as roommates and eventual business partners—in a phone sex operation.

The whole set-up seemed to smack of the worst of the movie industry. I could see openings for bad plot lines, thinly explored romance, and likely a lot of sex with men. What I certainly didn’t expect was a well-rounded modern comedy verging on a feminist view of friendship.

In Her Words: The Real L World's New Star Kiyomi McCloskey

Kiyomi McCloskey is waiting at the booming bar with a stunning blonde and a round of shots. In a simple white shirt and pants cut to show her rock star hips, she already looks like a headliner. But the lead singer of all-lesbian band Hunter Valentine is still in the midst of paying her dues as a new cast member in the east coast segment of ‘The Real L Word’. Still, the electric charge that seems unique to punk rock musicians is apparent as I sit down for shots and a chat.

Samantha Gellar: Let’s kick it off with the music. Hunter Valentine has a long track record…

Interview with an Outlaw

Pioneering LGBT journalist and activist Jeanne Córdova is back with a third book, When We Were Outlaws: a memoir of Love & Revolution. A sweeping memoir, a raw and intimate chronicle of a young activist torn between conflicting personal longings and political goals. This is a rare view of a radical lesbian activist’s life during the early struggle for gay rights, Women’s Liberation, and the New Left of the 1970s.
