SAN DIEGO -- The Hillcrest Town Council (HTC) is inviting all residents of the neighborhood to its July meeting, which will be held tonight from 6:30 to 8 pm.

The meeting will include a number of topics, including a presentation by Chris Chaffee on the San Diego Historic Streetcar project. Chaffee's group is working to restore and return the historic Class-1 streetcars to San Diego.

The project brought out a streetcar built in 1912 to be on display at last Sunday's HillQuest Hop 'n the Hood held along Seventh Avenue. Attendees at the daylong block party were able to view and board the stationary car, which hadn't held passengers since the 1930s, HillQuest officials said.

Also, Mike McLaughlin will give an update on Uptown parking issues, including discussion about HTC's two new seats on the Uptown Parking Advisory Board. Finally, the group will discuss issues with the 163 interchange at Robinson and 10th avenues.

HTC also invites community members to help them put "shine" back in the neighborhood following this weekend's San Diego LGBT Pride festivities. Nearly 200,000 people are expected to descend upon the streets of Hillcrest over the weekend which often leaves behind a significant amount of trash.

The group will hold its annual "Post-Pride Cleanup" at 7 am Monday, July 18, with participants meetings on Park Boulevard just south of University Avenue. Those who wish to help promote this effort by walking in Saturday's LGBT Pride Parade can pick an orange "Clean Team" T-shirt at tonight's meeting.

The meeting will be held at the Joyce Beers Uptown Community Center in the Uptown District Shopping Center on Vermont Street.
