My Lgbt Plus to debut in California's Central Valley

FRESNO, Calif. -- Youth activist Justin Kamimoto this weekend will launch a new website called My Lgbt Plus, a website devoted to connecting LGBT and straight ally youth within the Central Valley.

Taking place at First Congregational Church (The Big Red Church), home of the annual youth empowerment conference, on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 2 to 4:30 pm, attendees will be the first to experience My Lgbt Plus during a live presentation.

My Lgbt Plus will feature new ways for youth within the Central California region to connect with one another in efforts to establish a youth support system. Enhanced with social networking features, forums and directories, My Lgbt Plus is a one-stop location for youth to find resources and interact with one another.

Each month My Lgbt Plus will partner with local LGBT and straight ally friendly organization to provide in depth discussions to youth through the use of visual aids, including but not limited to pictures, videos, blogs and interviews.

“I believe My Lgbt Plus has the potential to be revolutionary. In the midst of all the activism surrounding the community, our youth deserve to have a place where they can feel safe, accepted, and supported. My Lgbt Plus will accomplish that and more,” said Hillary Bandera,
former Clovis North Gay Straight Alliance vice president and writer for My Lgbt Plus.

“Adolescence is already unfathomably confusing without adding worries over orientation to the mix. At My Lgbt Plus, we have the opportunity to be defined by our thoughts, actions and beliefs.”

What makes My Lgbt Plus different than other LGBT organizations in the Central Valley is that My Lgbt Plus is run primarily by youth for youth to benefit. Monthly newsletters featuring youth writers, parent bloggers and adults with an emphasis in topics such as how to identify with the LGBT community while still practicing religious beliefs and transgender backgrounds from a first-hand experience.

The First Congregational (The Big Red Church) is at 2131 N. Van Ness Avenue in downtown Fresno. All Central Valley high school students involved in their Gay Straight Alliance club on campus and local LGBT and straight ally organization representatives are invited to join an afternoon of learning how to aid youth of tomorrow.
