First two lesbian contestants miss out as finalists for Miss California USA

PALM DESERT, Calif. -- Jenelle Hutcherson of Long Beach and Mollie Thomas of West Hollywood, who made history as the first two lesbian contestants in Miss California USA, did not place in the pageant held this weekend.

College student Natalie Pack, who appeared on "America's Next Top Model," was named the winner on Sunday night at the McCallum Theatre. She entered the pageant as Miss Hoag Hospital.

Almost 400 women competed in the state pageant. The runner-up was Brie Gabrielle, who was Miss Malibu.

Hutcherson and Thomas got worldwide attention for their history-making endeavor, and both got an outpouring of support on their Facebook accounts. Both women also were lavished media attention.
