SAN DIEGO – The fun never seems to end in Hillcrest, even after the neighborhood’s signature events, CityFest and San Diego Pride, have passed. Next up is the fourth annual Toast to Hillcrest.

The community celebration will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, in the gayborhood.

The event is a fundraiser for the Hillcrest History Guild (HHG), an organization that captures the rich and colorful history of the neighborhood known as the cultural core of San Diego’s GLBT community.

The conservative attorney ate Wallace for lunch yesterday, the highlight of Sunday’s TV news programs.

Olson, one of the prominent lawyers who successfully fought for the overturning of California’s Proposition 8, appeared on Fox News Sunday to discussed Senior District Judge Vaughn Walker’s historic ruling last week that declared that Prop. 8 was unconstitutional.

Wallace kept asking Olson the usual right-wing talking points opposing marriage equality, and one by one Olson repudiated the phony arguments.

WASHINGTON – The Senate voted 63-37 this afternoon to confirm Solicitor General Elena Kagan as an Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.

Kagan, 50, becomes the 112th Supreme Court justice in U.S. history and only the fourth woman to serve on the high court.

The male-dominated Supreme Court now has three women justices, as Kagan joins the bench along with Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Sonia Sotomayor.

SAN FRANCISCO – In a landmark case, a federal judge ruled today that California’s Proposition 8 law banning marriage equality is unconstitutional.

Just five months after the state Supreme Court declared that same-sex marriage was legal, California voters in November 2008 narrowly approved Prop. 8 and took away the right despite the fact that more than 18,000 gay and lesbians couples had legally married.

Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker presided over the case, which went to trial on Jan. 11, 2010. Closing arguments concluded on June 16.
