County wants laundry money back from Auntie Helen's

SAN DIEGO -- After a months-long review of how Auntie Helen’s Fluff ‘n’ Fold spent a $10,000 San Diego County grant, the North Park charity is being asked to return more than $6,000.

County finance officials made the repayment demand after they found the nonprofit did not use the money to buy or repair washing machines, as promised in the grant application process.

Instead, the county learned that Auntie Helen’s executive director Michael Dudley used $6,255 for car repairs, carpeting and other spending that was not approved.
