VIDEO: San Francisco Pride to celebrate "Forty and Fabulous" this weekend

SAN FRANCISCO -- Forty is certainly fabulous and San Francisco is ready to celebrate. It has been 40 years since the first “Gay-In” was held in San Francisco, one of the “gay Meccas” of the world.

“Forty and Fabulous” is the theme of this year’s San Francisco LGBT Pride Celebration and people from around the world will descend upon the Northern California city to partake in the festivities. San Francisco Pride is one of the largest such events in the nation.

Warm Sands sex sting defense team allowed to review two years of arrest records involving public sex cases

INDIO – Defense attorneys were granted their wish in the Warm Sands sex sting case in Palm Springs.

A judge ruled Thursday that the Riverside County Public Defender’s Office can have access to two years of arrest records involving public sex charges.

The defense is trying to prove discrimination -- that the stings are only targeting men who have public sex with other men – and is expecting the arrest records will show that heterosexual public sex is being tolerated.

California Senate resolution asks for 2020 Census to include questions on sexual orientation, gender identity

SACRAMENTO – The California state Senate passed a joint resolution Thursday urging the federal government to include questions regarding sexual orientation and gender identity in the 2020 Census questionnaire.

The joint resolution, introduced by Sen. Christine Kehoe, D-San Diego, and sponsored by Equality California, passed 22-9 in a bipartisan vote.

The resolution, SJR 28, calls on Congress and the president to revise the census survey and to collect data identifying LGBT people and their families living in the U.S.

NEWS ANALYSIS: Attorneys opposing Proposition 8 shred defense team during closing arguments

SAN FRANCISCO – In what may be the trial of the 21st century, the federal judge in the Proposition 8 case peppered attorneys for both sides during closing arguments today.

Chief District Judge Vaughn Walker let few things fly during closing arguments, quickly challenging points of contention. He repeatedly asked Prop. 8 defense attorney Charles Cooper to produce evidence to support his closing arguments, and Cooper appeared flustered at times when he could not comply.

Palm Springs police chief to review gay slur made by undercover officer

PALM SPRINGS – The Palm Springs police chief has launched an internal review of a gay slur made by an undercover officer during a sex sting in the Warm Sands neighborhood last summer.

The gay slur came to light during pretrial testimony in an Indio courtroom on Monday.

A witness who reviewed police videotapes of the sting testified Monday that the undercover officer, who was watching from an unmarked police car, called the suspect in the sting a “c---s----r” and the slur triggered laughter from another undercover officer in the vehicle.

Undercover police officer used gay slur during Palm Springs sex sting, witness testifies

INDIO – An undercover Palm Springs police officer uttered a homosexual slur during a sex sting in the Warm Sands gay enclave in summer 2009, a witness testified Monday in an Indio court.

Defense witness Bruce Nickerson, a lawyer who specializes in defending clients who are arrested in sting operations, testified that he reviewed surveillance video from the Warm Sands sting operation.

VIDEO: L.A. to show its Pride this weekend in West Hollywood

LOS ANGELES -- As San Diego Pride organizers put the final touches on next month’s parade and festival, many San Diegans will head up to Los Angeles this weekend to celebrate Pride there.

Christopher Street West, as the event is titled, will celebrate its 40th anniversary this year, under the theme “Pride 365: Power. Passion. Purpose.”

California students sue over disappearing teachers

Natalie Robinson, 10, won’t be returning to Cordova Lane Elementary School next year because her school was shut down last week.

“It’s sad because my school is closing after 51 years,” said Natalie. “I’m going to miss my teachers; they were all really nice and creative.”
