Hitler Baneo Núñez, 49, allegedly tried to burn his son — identified in reports as Roberto — after becoming tired of jokes about his son’s sexual orientation, reports the Peruvian daily newspaper La Región.

Paraguay politician would shoot himself in the balls if his son married a man

ASUNCIÓN, Paraguay — Tobacco magnate Horacio Cartes, Paraguay’s leading presidential candidate, has come under fire for comments he made comparing gay people to “monkeys” and threatening to remove his genitals if his son married another man.

In a recent radio interview, Cartes also said support of same-sex marriage is like believing in “the end of the world,” reported The New York Times.

WELLINGTON, New Zealand – MPs overwhelmingly voted, 77-44, on Wednesday to approve marriage equality for gay and lesbian couples in New Zealand.

The third and final vote was largely ceremonial, since MPs had easily passed the first two readings. The bill now goes to the governor-general for royal assent, which is a mere formality.

Same-sex marriages will begin in August.

Archbishop of Canterbury to meet with human rights activist Peter Tatchell

LONDON – The Archbishop of Canterbury has agreed to meet this week with Peter Tatchell in response to the human rights campaigner’s open letter that was published by SDGLN and other media sources.

Justin Welby, leader of the 78 million-strong worldwide Anglican Communion, will speak with Tatchell at 1:30 pm Thursday, April 18, at Lambeth Palace.

British court upholds ban on teacher for telling students that gays are "disgusting"

LONDON — Britain’s high court has upheld a teaching ban on a Christian educator who told pupils lifestyle of gay people was “disgusting and a sin.”

A judge on Friday rejected an appeal by Robert Haye, a former science teacher at Deptford Green School in London, who in 2010 told pupils aged 15-16 that, according to the Bible, the way homosexual people lived was disgusting and a sin.

Young gay men face violence, lack housing and access to HIV services, global survey finds

A new study indicates that young men who have sex with men (YMSM) around the world experience higher levels of homophobia, unstable housing, violence and other factors that hinder access to HIV services, compared to older MSM.

Conducted by the Global Forum on MSM & HIV (MSMGF), the analysis shows YMSM fare worse than older MSM in their attempts to access numerous HIV services, including HIV treatment.

“Existing data indicates that rates of HIV are rapidly increasing among YMSM in low and high income countries alike,” said Dr. George Ayala, MSMGF executive director.

Ireland to conduct referendum on marriage equality

DUBLIN -- Ireland will vote on a referendum to decide if gay and lesbian couples should be granted marriage equality.

A national convention convened to recommend reforms to the Irish constitution voted today in favor of marriage equality with 79% approval.

Irish law requires a national referendum to make any changes to the constitution.

The Irish Council for Civil Liberties and the Gay and Lesbian Network welcomed the endorsement of gay marriage equality.

France's Senate approves marriage-equality bill; second reading necessary

PARIS – France’s Senate voted today to approve the marriage-equality bill. The vote was not close, and was conducted by a show of hands.

Because the Senate tinkered with minor items in the comprehensive bill, the measure will require a second vote by both the National Assembly and the Senate. The bill is expected to sail through the second reading.

The marriage-equality bill has stirred passions on both sides of the issue, although a thin majority supports the measure. Opponents have held large rallies against the bill, and anti-gay violence has spikes in recent weeks.
